I see from the death notices that Dinny Donnelly has died. When I first started taking notice of Meath teams Dinny was the captain. Met him a few times and he was a gentleman. He served Meath, Skryne and Kilmessan well. Missed out on an All Ireland medal as he had retired after the 1966 final. Also missed the history-making trip to Australia. Another of my long time heroes is now gone.

I think the large numbers that visited dinny's home done enogh to show how well thought of dinny and his family are, our thoughts are with his family at this time. May he rest in peace.

I have learned with great regret of the passing of Dinny Donnelly - a true royal hero.

Loved his native Kilmessan and of course followed a great dynasty.

A man of immense humility.
