Why do some people think the structures in Hurling, are comparable to football? In Hurling, the 4 tier system works, as the counties in the lower tiers are used to there being a small amount of interest in Hurling in their county, and changing the system wasn't a huge difference. Any 2nd tier or 3rd tier system in football, would see no one bothering to attend games, and the media would ignore everything below the top group of teams. As things stand, you have most games getting a 2 minute report on the Sunday game(or no coverage at all on league Sunday). Players with weaker counties are already heading abroad before the championship even begins, and i doubt they'd bother playing at all in a lower competition. The structures need to change, but not to the point that counties aren't given the chance to compete.
