Why are Meath the most hated??

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Don't be so touchy! I'm on the Meath border and there is generally no animosity towards Meath. Good honest team with super forwards. Always had a lot of respect for them. The Louth game debacle wasn't Meaths fault. The only people who hate you are Mayo, and they hate EVERYBODY, including themselves! The Dubs give out about you but secretly love you a little bit and have missed contesting Leinsters with you.

I think it is because when meath get the rub of the green, the fans try to put it down to this ruthless image they like to push onto themselves. For gods sake, how do poor officiating decisions have anything to do with being ruthless? Louth not only should have won the game but actually outfought meath this year, they were bullied out the gate. Ruthless tough guys? Mayo, although poor in the game would have beaten meath last year but for more of the same. At the end of the day it is only themselves they are fooling, the luck will always turn, but what sets fans apart is being gracious enough to call it the way it is regardless of the result. Meath fans dont show this, and try to excuse it with this self-imposed 'by all means' façade. Fair enough you take a win any way you can, but admitting the truth while you do it shows character and class.

Very interesting that the reaction here is general ambivilence (with some notable exceptions, happen to be Mayo fans but there may be more later).

This, to me, shows that the people that matter (real GAA fans like on here) know the score, most of the other **** is either media-driven or spouted by people who have a passing interest in GAA and turn up for the big games (25k Louth fans in Croker? - Where did they all come from?? How many did they bring to previous rounds?)

The Meath myth meanwhile continues to thrive, á la artiles like Tom Humphries' interview with O'Brien this morning in the IT.

But, as someone said earlier - we love it!

Looks like your one of the ones who jumped on the Louth bandwagon late, you clearly weren't in portlaoise if you think Meath only brought 3k.
Aswell, you ignore the fact that Louth had barely 700 at that game. True loyal fans aren't ye.
