London senior hurling championship

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Congratulation to all involved with the London hurlers on their recent achievements!! Long may it continue! Just for a little hurling chat to pull away from football, who do we think will make the hurling championships semis? Emmetts, Kilburn, Gabriels, Murphy's, McCurtain's and Tracey's?

It dont matter who makes the semi finals cos the kilburn gaels are going to win it anyway. They usually say they will around this time of the year.

St Gabriels have a great chance also. was very impressed with them v Thomas MacCurtains. there is one big game in MacCurtains this year. They will not win the championship but they will have a say in who wins.

Emmetts are still the team to beat as per usual, they know each so well from club & county. They're able to work the ball from their full back line right up to the full forward line and are the most clinical team in front of goal.
Gabriels have recruited well and have some very good new hurlers don't know if they will gel as well as the Emmetts seem to be able to. Time will tell. If they are able to they will take stopping!
Kilburn Gaels, nice outfit this year with some key men returning. Will improve.
Tracey's heard nothing but think they will have a big input somewhere along the lines.
McCurtains bound to improve and will have a big performances in them.
Murphy's, lost a good few and still gaining a few. Pure dogged spirit against everyone may provide a few shocks this year and might produce nothing at all!?

Emmetts, Gabriels, Kilburn and Murphy's.... in that order?
An open draw for the semis this year should make an interesting semi-final stage in November!!

have to give Sean Howlin credit on his bold prediction that McCurtains would have a big performance in them, would say the draw with Emmets yesterday will have been the biggest shock for a while in the hurling. Big performances from all the Ryans for Tipp yesterday

where did that result come from that is some scoreline between emmetts and mccurtains has opened the championship up completely fair play to mccurtains its good to see them come strong at the championship had a rake of subs as well. gabriels must be top of the favourites list now but you can never write emmetts off. kilburn had it more of their own way than i thought they would against murphys we'll have to wait and see if treacys have a few shocks in store for us there could be a serious relegation fight this year.

Have to agree with Sean too, McCurtain's played a stormer yersterday. As a neutral I watched both games yesterday and I have to say all the London boys looked out on their feet, whether it was a week of beer or what who knows maybe they should of being giving this weekend off after a tough game last weekend.
Was very impressed with Kilburn played well without their top markman Vaughan. Emmett's were very poor at the back, they were missing a few that would of made a huge difference for them. Fair play to McCurtains to hold out for the draw in the end. That result though could spur them on now, I wouldn't like to be the next team that plays them. Just on a final note on that game and not to take away from McCurtains but the refereeing was shocking during that game and if Emmett's are to win the Championship for the 4th year running they will have to keep the mouths shut and beat the ref aswel.
Hopefully the Tracey's will provide another shock tomorrow night and give us an interesting championship.

Saw the Treacys and the Gabriels and have to say that the Treacys will almost definately be relegated to intermediate this year bar a miracle.I also agree with the last poster re the referee with the Emmetts and Mcurtains, fair play to the mcurtains on their draw but i hear the ref was bad.Kilburn to win the championship.

Anyone see the games at the weekend? I thought Kilburn and the Emmetts was very good in patches, Emmetts bouncing back from their draw last weekend. McCurtains tried their best but in fairness some of the goals that went in, in both ends were shocking for senior hurling. And I know the Treacy's aren't going to do much this year but did anyone else notice one or 2 different faces on the Murphy's team, I'm not trying and don't want to start an argument here but I heard they flew a couple of lads over to play at the weekend. Bad form if they are.

On current form I'd have to say Gabriel's are the favourite's for the championship.

The results on the Londongaa.co.uk are wrong I believe the scorelines do not read what they're supposed to. I heard if teams finish level for 4th for example it will go on score difference, lets hope it's not by the websites scores......(squeeky bum time!!)

well lads its great no-one bar gabriels can be sure of a place in the semi's, mccurtains have a real chance to remove any south london presence in the championship, its hard to imagine given treacys proud record. i'll still go with murphys, kilburn, gabriels and emmetts but i'm mightily impressed with tommy macs for a club that requested to be demoted even before the championship began. gabriels and emmetts to win the weekend.

Was working at the weekend so missed the matches, anyone know how they went. Heard the Emmetts poor streak finally caught up on them and the Gabriel's came from 9 points down to draw.

Murphy's 6 points
Gabriels 5 points
Kilburn 5 points
Emmetts 4 points
McCurtains 1 points
Traceys 0 points

Is that correct?

I reckon this is the most open championship in years. The Emmetts have dominated for the 4 or 5 years having won the county here in 08,07,06,beat i final in 05 and won in 04.Thats a great record no doubt however, i believe they are not the favourites this year as they seem to be struggling a lot .They have been missing a lot of players in their games but so has every other team and im sure if they qualify for semi's they will have a full side out but they dont seem to be at their best recently.Gabriels are a one man show like the Galway team, keep Finn quite and the other 5 forwards will hardly score as was brutally exposed by the Kilburn last week although they did manage to claw back a draw from them with 10 mins to go and down 10 points.Kilburn look decent enough as do murphys so all in all it will be a very interesting championship for the clubs. It would be nice though to see the Emmetts strangle hold on the senior hurling championship taken away from them for a while but, no doubt they wont go down easy.
Gabriels evens
Kilburn 6/4
Murphys 15/8
Emmetts 2/1

Any takers lads.

Ill have some of that on Emmetts @ 2/1! Yes they have been way under par but Im pretty sure they have been missing more players than any other team so far and still managed 4 points if I am correct? McMahon will be a big loss no doubt but I still see them as favourites when they field full team. One worrying sign for the bi teams are the performances of the goal keepers as of late. Gannon had 3 howlers again at the weekend, surely this must improve if gabriels have aspirations of a title this year?
