Should Bosco/Mitchels amalgamate?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Heard a strong rumour over the weekend that this might be a strong possiblity over the coming years as both teams are struggling financially and do not have the strength in depth to move beyond Div 3. Can anyone confirm this rumour also what do the current players of these teams make of this possibility? Is is feisable or is the rivalry so intense that neither team wishes to join up? I know for a fact alot of the Bosco fella's get on rightly with the majority of the mitchels lads so why not?

More chance of Saul & Kilclief amalgamating I'd say.

from our side its looks at the minute a possibility as the two clubs are in a bit of turmoil, i think now would be as good as time as any for us and the mitchels to join as we are both at rock bottom. if only one team of the two manage to get promoted at the end of the year it would be harder then for this to happen.

any suggestions for a name?

mite be a rumour but it wouldnt be a bad idea, the amount of players that end up leaving these clubs when they get to minor and senior level. newryview u know yourself who the players are that left. and if most of them stayed you's would be pushing for promotion to division 2.

youve hit the nail on the head Glennabu. too many players are being poached from the urben clubs by rural and the clubs that are doing the posching know who they are. this year alone we've lost two exceptional players to Ballyholland. the problem is that in a town like newry, there is no boundary between clubs and players just move around when and where ever they like.

and you also get the odd player that is playing on a friday night in the Down league and on a sunday in the Armagh league. the whole thing at times is a farce, and i really do believe this is now the time for the two clubs to become one.

fromwhat i can gather at training the majority of our boys would welcome it because they then know that their is alot better chance of playing a good standard of football. more comments on this issue are needed

Total disgrace that in a town the size of Newry 2 teams are talking about amalgamating. Bosco minors won the championship in 2002 and this year where beaten narrowly by Mayobridge in the semi final, something seriously wrong that they are in division 4. You can understand somewhere like Ballykinlar struggling as the population is so small but somewhere the size of Newry. It is there attitude that is wrong, in Newry Bosco can beat most teams but if they don't fancy a trip up the country they can arrive with 1/2 a team 5 minutes before a match is meant to start.

i can only speak for my club, bosco are building a team out of there 2002 minor winning team , and yes things were not good within the club last year because of well spoke about reasons !!!!!!!! but apart frm 3 players, the team is aged 24 down which is still a very young panal of player, bosco will com good as a club but i would like to think we can do it by are salves with out robbing player from other clubs,or join up with any other club.

at my place of worship last evening, bumped into two Mitchels breatren and its now seems to be common knowledge that this is in the pipeline and it seems that they are for it also. shamrocks might not be the strongest team in Newry for much longer!! maybe exciting times ahead for the two clubs but agreement would need to be made soon. its not going to happen this year but maybe at the end of the year if agreement can be now no matter what happens during the coming season

just like 2 mention that 1 player from bosco wanted 2 play 4 ballyholland as all his mates play 4 them and his hse is virtually on harps pitch.he told me himself it was a wrench 2 leave bosco , but hes not the first r last 2 switch between newry teams. lads (get over it). it wud be worse a fella cudnt play again (injury) are ? we not all red n black !. i work in south armagh and xmg cross> apparently cherry pick from all the south armagh clubs

glenn_abu, Not sure don't know all the politics in the club but they have a few very good minors teams and the year before won the junior championship and just missed out on making the promotion playoffs with a very young team. Would have expected them to kick on last year from that, instead they end up in division 4.

Bosco are the worst club with the worst structure i have seen in many years!! The long walk from those changing rooms? is this a system to de-physc oppponents or wat?
i feel an amalgamation of mitchells would be good, however their changing rooms are poor aswell..new set of changing rooms would be on the cards if the botchells were to amalgamate

In the past 20 years, only two players have joined Ballyholland from Bosco.

One of these was a result of a club fall out, nothing to do with Ballyholland.

The other was an under-16 player whose family moved to physically next door to Ballyholland's ground when he was 11. Having spent 5 years kicking a ball on Ballyholland's pitches with his mates, joining the club was only natural.

The fact that both of these transfers happened in the past year shouldn't come into it. Ballyholland don't recruit players from other clubs.

not just ballyholland. what about the other players from bosco to other clubs? there were certain individuals that went to cross (k.brennan), carrickcruppen (rooneys) and i think 1 might be on his way to saval.
mitchels have lost a few players aswell, 1 to name stephen kearney, that speaks for itself.

i can see why these players want to leave and due to the town having no borders between which club, players can go and come whenever it suits. our club is a shambles at the moment and cant see a way forward. we wil be in the 4th for a long time i think. i would like to hear the view of a few mitchels geals on this matter
