It has been a busy weekend for Carryduff Gaels with a lot of action crammed into the past few days.
All-Ireland Ladies Intermediate Football Final Down -v - Fermanagh
On Sunday, the Ladies made their annual trip to the Ladies All-Ireland Finals at Headquarters. This year there was much more attraction to the outing as Down contested the Intermediate Title with three Carryduff ladies in the county panel. Such an atmosphere in Croke Park when Down ladies took the field. The tempo picked up further as Down got off to a blistering start and soon took a firm grip on the game. By half time the Down girls had a commanding lead. As the second half commenced they extended that lead further to quench the Fermanagh challenge. The large contingent of Down support that had travelled to Croke Park to support the girls made plenty of noise as Megan Doherty and Jessica Foy were introduced into the game in the second half. Down went on to demolish Fermanagh by 21 points on a final scoreline of Down 6-16 Fermanagh 1-10.
Megan, Jessica and Erin Robinson received a tumultuous reception from the Carryduff girls at the bottom of section 302 of the Cusack Stand as the Down ladies made the lap of honour round the pitch. Their Carryduff team-mates were delighted that the girls took time, in the midst of such celebrations, to acknowledge their presence there in support of them in Croke Park on the biggest day of the Ladies calendar.
Well done to Mark Copeland and a committed Down squad. And well done to Megan, Erin and Jessica who have provided such inspiration for their team-mates and out younger females members.

Down Under-14 Football Championship Final (at Clonduff 27th September 2014)
Carryduff - v- St Mary's Burren
Burren got off to a bright start in this County final, as Ryan Cunningham (2) and Danny Magill pointed before Carryduff settled into the game. Two pointed frees from Ryan Tweedy in the 6th and 7th minutes reduced the deficit to a point before Charlie Magill (8th) extended in to two and a 10th minute goal from Conall Sheehan put five between the teams. The unfortunate Eóin Rooney had to leave the field of play after suffering a facial injury in the early stages of the game and was replaced by Euan McNicholl
Carryduff Rallied and two points from Simon Turkington in the 12th minute saw them claw their way back into the contest. A 13th minute point from Rory Reilly reduced the deficit to two but a hotly disputed goal after Carryduff 'keeper Tommy Connery was unceremoniously emptied into the net gave Burren the initiative. Referee Gregory McGrath consulted with his umpires and allowed the goal to stand. When Thomas Travers added Burren's fifth point of the half (22nd), Carryduff looked to be in trouble Paul Doherty had a glimpse of gaol in the 23rd minute of play but the Carryduff corner forward finished with a point. A few moments later substitute Euan McNicholl despatched to the Burren net to leave only two points in the game as the first half finished Carryduff 1-06 Burren 2-05.
Carryduff couldn't have wished for a better start to the second half - Paul Doherty finished to the Burren net in the opening minute to give Carryduff the narrowest of advantages. However, it was short lived a s Burren rattled off four points within the opening ten minutes, two apiece from Danny Magill and Ryan Cunningham and effectively took a commanding grip on the game as Carryduff simply lost their way. Danny Magill pointed again for Burren thirteen minutes into the half.
Burren added two goals - in the 15th minute (Oisín Osborne) and in the twentieth minute (Conal Sheehin) and finished strongly with point from Osborne, Danny Magill (3) and substitute Thomas Magee.
Carryduff could only manage a 25th minute point from Ryan Tweedy and a converted penalty from the same player in the final minute of the game.
Burren were deserved winners on a scoreline of 4-15 to 3-07. However, this young Carryduff side have much more football in them than that final scoreline suggests and should come through strongly to under-16 grade.

September Action for Carryduff P3/4 boys
September has been a busy month for the Carryduff P3/4 boys. The month started with the Annual Carryduff Under 8.5 Tournament on 6th September. This was a real success with twenty six teams representing counties Antrim, Armagh, Derry, Donegal, Dublin and Down. Carryduff fielded four teams which was a great experience for over forty lads who all got to play four or five games. The standard of play was very high and it was an impressive Sean MacCumhaills team from Ballybofey in Donegal who lifted the cup. All of the Carryduff teams performed admirably and two of them lifted silverware with the 'red' team lifting the Trophy after defeating Na Fianna from Dublin in a thrilling final.
The younger Carryduff Blues were victorious in their Shield final, while a third Carryduff team also reached the Plate final before succumbing to local rivals Bredagh. Needless to say, all the boys were winners on the day as they gave their all and produced great entertainment for the spectators.
The following week, Carryduff sent two teams to the East Down Blitz in Drumaness. This was another great day of football played in a great spirit. Carryduff Fianna were unbeaten in their three games, recording victories over RGU Downpatrick and Bredagh before a thrilling draw with one of two Saul teams who were present. Carryduff Gaels also played some good football, emerging victorious against a second Saul team and Loughinisland. Their only defeat came at the hands of a strong Teconnaught team. All twenty two boys can be proud of their efforts on the day and the team photo featured prominently in the following week's Mourne Observer newspaper.
