Down VHI Cul Camps

Down VHI Cul Camp take palce this summer in conjunction with Club Down who be supporting the scheme.

What are the Vhi GAA Cúl Camps?
The camps are a nationally co-ordinated programme by GAA aiming to encourage primary school children between the ages of 7 and 13 to learn and develop sporting and life skills by participating in Gaelic Games, in a fun, non-competitive and healthy environment.

Vhi Healthcare is the main sponsor and this is the 5th year of Vhi GAA Cúl Camps. It is anticipated that we will have approx 83,000 children participating this Summer in approx. 1,000 camps nationwide and abroad. We in Down last year put 3212 children and increase of 292 from the previous year; we have 2 new clubs making the total of 43 clubs and 5 that don't.

Vhi GAA Cúl Camps are run throughout July and August,
The Cul Camps will be run from 10am - 2.30pm daily and will be open to children who will be starting P4 from Sept 2010. The maximum age limit for the Cul Camp is 13yrs. The Cul Camp will cost £35 per child.

And again this year Down GAA will once again be running nursery camps this summer. The nursery camps will be for children who were enrolled in P1 or P2 from Sept 2009 - June 2010. The nursery camps will run from 10am - 12.30pm at a cost of £25 per child. The Nursery camp cannot be book online

A Vhi GAA Cúl Camp County Co-ordinator has been appointed in each of the
32 counties to oversee the running of the camps. In addition, a Vhi GAA Cúl Camps Club Co-ordinator has also been appointed for each camp. They will co-ordinate the camps and with the assistance of qualified and experienced coaches will follow the "Fun Do" coaching programme.

Irrespective of sporting skills or ability, at Vhi GAA Cúl Camps children are encouraged to:

• Develop their sporting skills through participation in Gaelic games
• Learn new ideas and meet new people
• Develop a keen sense of fair-play and personal achievement
• Stay active and healthy.
• Have fun!

In addition to learning the skills of Gaelic Games under the tutelage of qualified GAA coaches, participating children will receive a full set of playing gear and a kit bag plus a Vhi GAA Cúl Camp medal at the end of the week.
