Inishowen GAA notes

Inishowen Board to hold 125th anniversary celebration on Friday night
Sunday was the 125th anniversary of the founding of the Gaelic Athletic Association and the great of the good of the organisation assembled in Thurles to mark the occasion.
The Inishowen Board is also organising a special end of year event with a presentation and Mass in the Malin GAA Centre on Friday next, 6 November. The evening gets under way at 7.30pm.
As local clubs reflect on another successful year on and off the playing fields, the board wants to give members the opportunity to come together and mark their achievements in this special anniversary year for the Association.
The captains of all the winning teams in local competition, from U12 to U18, will be honoured while the captains of the peninsula's adult county championship winning teams - Sean O'Hare (Moville, Junior Football Champions), Mickey McCann (Burt, Senior Hurling Champions), and Anita Doherty (Moville, Senior Women's Football Champions) - will also be honoured.
Former Carndonagh Community School principal Brian Mullins, one of the biggest stars of Gaelic games in the 1970s and 1980s when he lined out at centrefield for the Dubs, will attend and speak on the night, as will his wife Helen. Both of them made a major contribution to Gaelic games locally when they lived here.
The Inishowen Board is extending an open invitation to everyone who wishes to attend and they hope to have a number of special guests on the night, including representatives from the Northern Board, County Board, Hurling Board, Ladies Board and Camogie Board.
Representatives from Inishowen's seven clubs will be in attendance and it's hoped that captains from all under-age winning teams will attend and wear club colours for official presentation photos. Clubs are encouraged to bring at least five under-age players, both boys and girls, and as many adult members, family and friends as possible.
Mass will be held in the Malin GAA Centre at 7.30pm and will be followed by the presentation where refreshments will also be served.
Buncrana
Good Luck to the U15 Footballers who will play St Eunan's in the County Championship Final in the Scarvey on Wednesday at 7pm. Everyone is asked to come along and support the Buncrana boys.
Can everyone please put an extra effort into selling all the tickets they have been allocated as this is our main fund raising event. Please return sold tickets to whomever they received them from.
Bord na nÓg AGM meeting will be held in the Scarvey on 22 November at 5pm and we would ask all parents to attend. If anyone wants to order Buncrana tracksuits etc., for Christmas, orders must be placed and monies paid in the next two weeks to ensure they will be here on time. Contact Stephen McClafferty 086 889102 or Pauline Grant 086 0812429.
Burt
Burt's struggle to avoid relegation took another setback on Sunday afternoon. A win would have guaranteed Division 3 status for the adult footballers for next year but the 1-8 to 0-5 defeat by Naomh Columba means at best Burt are facing three more games to avoid the drop.
The condition of the pitch looked good early in the afternoon, but it was in a different shape following the reserve match. The underfoot conditions may have been poor but Burt were unable to have any bearing in the first half. Naomh Columba had the wind advantage in the first half but their 0-7 to 0-0 lead at half time had more to do with Burt's display.
Burt then lost Ciaran Dowds at the beginning of the second half. Four points from the boots of Joe Boyle and Kevin McDermott brought it back to 0-7 0-4 midway through the half. A Paddy McDermott point followed Naomh Columba's solitary point in the second half that brought a little belief back into the game. Naomh Columba though killed the game off in the last five minutes when a dropped ball in the backline was tapped into the Burt goal.
The best Burt can achieve now is a victory against Cloughaneely away next week to force a play-off against fellow Inishowen club Carn, with the losers facing Na Rossa in a relegation play-off. A defeat next week will make it a straight play-off against Na Rossa.
The reserve footballers drew with Naomh Columba reserves 1-7 to 2-4. Burt trailed 2-1 to 0-1 at half time but fought back well and hit a late equaliser from a Liam McKinney goal.
Burt held the Night at the Races in The Frontier Hotel, Bridgend last Friday evening. It was a successful and enjoyable evening and a good support came along on the night. The bragging rights belonged to Ciaran Dowds, Shaun Murphy and Aaron 'Chuck' McDaid with their horse 'Chuck' winning the auction race. Many thanks to all our members who sold horses for the night and also to our sponsors: Michael McLaughlin (Welding); Donaghey's Garage, Burnfoot; PJ McDermott Construction; Kular - Derry; Emmet Dowds; Thomas Downey; Leo's Café, Burnfoot; Reddin's Buses; EuroSpar Newtown; Waterworks, Bridgend; The Frontier Hotel, Bridgend; Sean McHugh; and the Inishowen Independent.
The club's AGM is set for Saturday 28 November in the Burt Clubhouse at 3pm. All adult members are expected to attend.
Congratulations to Liam McKinney who completed the Dublin Marathon last Monday Bank Holiday. Although he still put in a good time it was much slower than last year - perhaps a sign that age is catching up with him!
There was no winner of the lotto jackpot last week. Frankie McDermott and Fergal Grant won 20 each. The numbers drawn were 3, 6, 2, 1, 4, 7, 5. Next week's jackpot is 550. Anyone with lotto's should have them in the clubhouse by Thursday night at 8.15 pm or hand it to any club member.
The next hurling development night in the area will be on Thursday 12 November where a hurling CPD will be held in Aileach Youth Club at 7pm. Anyone involved with underage hurling teams or in a coaching role should take this opportunity to attend. This should also be useful for any parents who are interested to help out. Any further news will be notified to all members.
The PRO is requesting a summary of the underage hurling and football campaigns from all underage managers as soon as possible for the Donegal Yearbook. You can e-mail it to
[email protected] or hand it in. A brief note will do.
As the playing season moves closer to an end for all teams it would be grateful if anyone who has club jerseys belonging to the club at home, please return as soon as possible. Thank you.
The Inishowen Board is holding presentations and a special Mass in Malin GAA club this Friday 6 November commencing at 7.30 pm.
