Blessington club notes

Senior Ladies - We concluded our Annual Winter 7's on Sun 13 Nov. A perfect morning for football! Huge to thanks to all teams, mentors and supporters. As always each game was played very sportingly with some very good contests in store! The Scotts Jewellers' Plate went to St Kevins CC Red Team. Maura Reid presented the Plate to captain Mia Kavanagh. Player of the Match was awarded to Ellen Maguire. The Murphy's Bar Shield Final was a very close game with only a kick of the ball between the two teams. Elaine Casey from Murphys presented all the following awards: Runner Up medals to St Kevins CC Green Team,The Shield Winning team was Carnew with captain Fiana O'Reilly collecting the trophy. Player of the match went to Sinead Kinsella (Carnew). The Mick Reid Cup- The Final two was a repeat of the previous two years and it was a 3 in a row victory for the unstoppable Tinahely! A very strong side but a great battle from Blessington with a gallant second half effort. Breda Reid (on behalf of the Reid family) presented the following awards: Runner Up medals to Blessington. Then onto the winning medals and the Cup was lifted by captain Emily Hadden. Player of the match was Amy Maher from Tinahely. Well done to all and thanks a mil to our men in the middle Keith Peppard and Gerry Corbett. Thank you to Phyllis Hamilton for taking the photos. Our caterers did a fantastic job as always providing lovely warm soup and refreshments for everyone. Many thanks to Anne Mary and Julie. We hope to see you all for the 2017 tournament.

Any girls over 16 looking for a new sport/hobby and want to be part of our excellent Senior Ladies Team? We would love to welcome some NEW/PAST PLAYERS to join us for our 2017 season. Junior Ladies - The junior ladies will train with the seniors on Fri nights for 8pm over the winter.

G4M - Training for G4M is on Wed night 6:45pm to 8pm. The ladies played V St. Peregrine on Sun 13 Nov in Blessington. It was an excellent competitive and tough game. The ladies were fantastic and a good game. Well done to Caroline on her first game. Welcome to the team and a great first game.

Juveniles

U16/Minor - Peter Behan and Co are running a 7 aside over the next 5/6 weeks. Be ready to go at 7pm sharp on Mondays on the astro.

U11 Boys - U11 boys had their last NKL game at home V Leixlip on Sun 13 Nov. A high scoring game and some great skill on show by both teams. Leixlip shaded the game 3-11 to 2-09. The U11's had a great league campaign finishing with 3 wins and 2 losses/ A massive improvement by all.

Hurling -Michael Dwyers still have the B final v North District in Arklow on Sun 18 Nov. (deferred from 13/11). Time TBC.

Indoor Hurling - For kids born 2009 and 2010. 6 week session in St Kevins hall starting Sat 12 Nov at 9.45am to 10.45am. Session run by GAA award 2 Hurling coach. €15 for full 6 weeks to cover cost of hall and equipment. All equipment provided and fully insured. Contact Ciarán on 085 7145288 to book place.

AGM - This year's AGM will take place in the Baile Coimin Centre on Mon 28 November at 8pm. Nomination forms for members are available from Breda Brophy. [email protected]. If you would like to know what is planned for 2017 with big changes on the way. Come along and find out more. We are ALL part of the club and would appreciate more hands-on deck. It takes a lot of work to run a club the size of BlessingtonGAA with nearly 400 players (juveniles and seniors).

Grand Development Draw and Punchestown Race day - Our annual race day in Punchestown has grown in popularity over the years. This year it will be held on Sun 20 Nov in conjunction with our Grand Development Draw proudly sponsored by Dunnes Stores, Blessington.- 1st prize €2,600. 2nd prize Dunnes Stores vouchers - €1,500. 3rd prize - Dunnes Stores vouchers €750. 4thprize - Dunnes Stores vouchers €500. 5th prize - Dunnes Stores vouchers €250. Tickets cost €20 each or 2 for €30 which also includes entry to Punchestown Racecourse for Race Day (value €18). On the day, there will also be lots of cash prizes also for each race and plenty of prizes. All monies raised from this and previous draws and events is put aside for the development of the club. Tickets are on sale from all managers and committee members. County meeting - A meeting will be held on Mon 21st Nov at 7.30pm in Ballinakill for Chairpersons and Team Manager or any interested party in our club. The Senior County Football and Hurling Managers will be present. This meeting was requested by clubs at the special meetings in July where we discussed Football and Hurling.

Lotto - No winner of lotto 1 November 2016. Next draw jackpot will be €5400 on 15 Nov in Mileys. Tickets are available in shops and pubs around the town. Scor na nOg - Blessington GAA were represented by Finn Behan, Austin Brennan, James Dooley, Cormac O'Loughlin and Adam Smyth in the Instrumental music section and they came 2nd in this category. They scored 89/100. Alannah May Phibbs represented the club in the Solo Singing category and came 3rd in a very strong category which was won for the 4th year in a row by Amy Barrett (Dunlavin). Alannah scored 91/100. The club are delighted to back in Scor again after a big absence. We hope to have adults in the Scor Sinsear in Feb/Mar 2017. More about that in Jan 17. Thanks to Catherine Behan, Pat Conlon, Mary O'Loughlin, Ivan Smyth and Kevin Dooley. The kids travelled to St Patrick's in Wicklow town on Fri 11 Nov and had a great time and received lovely medals. You are all great. Keep up the practice and who knows what Scor 2017 will bring!
