Junior C County Football Championship
Ashford defeated Annacurra by 1-10 to 0-8 to secure a place in the Quarter Final of the Junior C Football Championship. Ashford will now play Aughrim in the last Group game to determine who will win the Group and have a favourable Quarter Final game. Aughrim have three points from two games while Ashford have four points. Ashford dominated the game against Annacurra right from the start, led by two points to nil after ten minutes having shot six wides. Ashford led at the interval by 1-6 to 0-3. Ashford could afford the luxury of shooting fourteen wide's in the game. Feature of the game was the outstanding performance by Shane O'Connor who won the Man of the Match award, Annacurra had no answer for his speed, strength and vision. Shane scored an excellent point having run 50 meters from the half back line, he also created many scores for colleagues and made the all important pass to Adrian Marah for Ashford's goal. Ashford were leading by five points with six minutes remaining when Peter Farrell in the Ashford goal made two point blank saves which were top quality and had a big bearing on the result. Peter's overall performance was very good and he contributed to Ashford keeping a clean sheet. Jason Doyle at full back was in control and he was supported by Martin Doyle and Brian Shannon in the second half. Brion O'Donnell scored a good point from the half back line, James Coffey also played well in defence. Graham Mooney and David Dowling did well in the middle of the field with Graham contributing one point. The half forward line of Dean Doyle, Tom Doyle and Danny Byrne scored five points between them. Dean is improving with each game and he scored three quality points. Adrian Marah was top scorer with 1-2, he once again demonstrated his experience in the game and perhaps we should feed him more often with the ball. Kevin Cullinane and Gary Maguire provided good support. Scorers for Ashford were Adrian Marah 1-2, Dean Doyle 0-3, Shane O'Connor 0-1, Brion O'Donnell 0-1, Graham Mooney 0-1, Tom Doyle 0-1, Danny Byrne 0-1.
