INTERMEDIATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP - ROUND 3
Raheen Intermediate Footballers suffered their first defeat in the Championship aganst Cappincur in Ballycomman last Friday evening in Round 3 on a scoreline of 3-13 to 1-09 which leaves Raheen facing an uphill struggle to qualify for the quarter finals from the remaining 2 games. It all went wrong for Raheen straight from the throw in as Cappincur with their first attack got in to score their first goal inside the first min. Cappincur then added their first 2 points before Raheen got off the mark with a point midway through the half. Over the next 15 mins Raheen added 5 points as Cappincur replied with 4 points of their own. Then in stoppage time Cappincur ended the half as they started robbing possession in the square before flicking the ball top the net for goal no 2 and so at the break Cappincur were leading well 2-06 to 0-06. Raheen needed to get off to a good start in the second half and this they did with the first attack they won a penalty when Paddy Rigney was brought down and stepped up to take it himself sending the keeper the wrong way to bury his shot in the net. This was wipped out in the 3rd min as Cappincur with their first break got in to score their third goal. The next 15 mins Raheen slowly clawed their way back into it with 3 points to Cappincur's 1. Then in the final 10 mins Raheen created a number of scoring chances but could not get the finishing touch as Cappincur streched clear tagging on the final 6 points without reply to wrap it up.

U16 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
Na Fianna U16 Footballers made it 2 wins out of 2 in the Championship with a comprehensive rout of Kilcormac / Killoughey in their Round 2 encounter last Monday week in Geashill on a scoreline of 4-19 to 1-02. Na Fianna shot a few early wides before finally getting off the mark with their opening point on 6 mins and K/K pointed a free a minute later for their opening score. The next 10 mins saw Na Fianna add 5 points to K/K's 1 but Na Fianna were still wasting more chances than they were converting. Then on 18 mins a scramble developed in th Na Fianna goal which K/K managed to work the ball over the line for their goal. This proved to be the wake up call Na Fianna needed as firstly straight from the kickout they worked the ball straight upfield where it came to Colm McDermott in the square who blasted his shot to the net for their 1st goal and Na Fianna followed it up with 6 more points without reply before the end of the half and so at the break Na Fianna were in control leading 1-12 to 1-02. Any hope of a comeback by K/K was wiped out 3 mins into the second half as Colm McDermott blasted in his and Na Fianna's second goal. Na Fianna then added 2 more points before David Buckley got the decisive finishing touch to dispatch goal no 3 on 7 mins.In what was completely one way traffic Na Fianna were able to afford to bring off some of their best players and still managed to add 5 more points without reply before finishing the half as they started as midfielder John Ridgeway fired his shot into the net with the final kick of the game for goal no 4.

MINOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
Na Fianna Minor Footballers will be dissappointed with the start to their Championship campaign as they were beaten by a strong Edenderry side in their opening round encounter last Wednesday in Geashill on a scoreline of 4-12 to 0-13 in a game that was a lot closer than the scoreline suggests. Both sides opened their tally with a pointed free inside the first min. From here to the midpoint of the half Na Fianna were in control as they tapped over 6 points to Edenderry's 2 but Na Fianna will rue the about 3-4 good goalscoring chances in this time which they could just not get the finishing touch on. In the 17th min a quick break upfield saw Edenderry get in to score their first goal. Edenderry drew level and went in front over the next 10 mins as they added 3 points to Na Fianna's 2. Edenderry got in to score their second goal in the 27th min before Na Fianna hit back with a point and so at the break Edenderry were leading 2-06 to 0-06. The early stages of the second half saw play held up for near 10 mins as the Edenderry corner forward suffered a head injury and had to be strechered off. For the next 15 mins after play resumed both sides matched one another scoring 3 points apiece maintaining the 3 points difference. Then in the final min of normal time came the killer blow as Edenderry struck for their third goal followed by a pointed free and a min into injury time Edenderry got in to score their fourth goal to ensure there could be no comeback. The remaining injury rime saw both sides complete their tally with a point apiece but it was too little too late for Na Fianna.
NA FIANNA: Fintan Pierce, Ben Dunne, James Lalor, Kevin Beirne, Niall Lynch, Clint Horan, Mikey Pender, Declan Byrne, Mikey Keogh, Kevin Kinahan (0-03), Ben Ridgeway (0-01), Aaron Pierce (0-05), Fergus Flood, Jason Dunne (0-01), Shane Dolan (0-03).
