U14 Semi final:
Edenderry 1-6
St Vincents 1-9

Edenderry U14's crashed out of the championship with a three point defeat to St Vincents in Walsh Island on Saturday afternoon. Played in high winds and good spirits, St Vincent's were the stronger team on the day and were deserving of their win.

St Vincents had a great start to the game and with just three minutes gone they had raced into a 1-1 to no score lead. Edenderry responded with a pointed free from midfielder Lee Hyland on six minutes and four minutes later Stevie Osborne pointed his first of the day. Two points in the space of a minute stretched Vincent's lead to five points but it was Edenderry who finished the half the strongest with points from Stevie Osborne and Jordan Hayes. Vincent's failed to score after the thirteenth minute but the reds still trailed by two points at half time.

Half time:
Edenderry 0-4
St Vincent's 1-3

Conor Farrell pointed from a free just forty five seconds into the second half to leave just one between the sides. However the opening ten minutes belonged to St Vincent's and in a three minute spell they registered three points to give them a four point cushion, one from a very impressive free on the sideline. Stevie Osborne scored his third point of the game in the tenth minute after the goalie made a great save from a Jordan Hayes shot. Again Vincent's hit back with a excellent point from more than forty yards from goals. There would be ten minutes before the next score but it came for Edenderry in the twenty second minute when Conor Farrell made an excellent side step and shot with his left foot, sending the ball to the back of the net. There was now just one point between the sides but two late bizzarre decisions allowed Vincent's to score two free's in the final five minutes to secure the win by three points.

JHC Result:
Edenderry 1-12
Raheen 1-5

Edenderry hurlers retained their junior 'A' status with a seven point win over Raheen on Tuesday night. Played in ferocious weather conditions it was the three men from the Derries, Martin Keogh, Sean Og Farrell and Cillian Farrell who registered the scores to win the game for Edenderry.

Raheen had the aid of the strong breeze in the first half and they used it well with the first three scores of the game in the fifth, seventh and twelfth minute. Edenderry eventually settled down and Cillian Farrell pointed a free in the thirteenth minute. Four minutes later Cillian pointed again and left just one between the sides despite Raheen's superior possession. David Hanlon won a free at his own '65 and played a quick ball into Cillian Farrell who made no mistake with the strike. Martin Keogh won the ball from the puck out and sent the ball over the bar for Edenderry to take the lead in the eighteenth minute. Both sides were finding scores hard to come by and there was an eleven minute spell where neither side scored. With just one minute remaining in the first half a long ball arrived into the Edenderry square and was not dealt with by the defence resulting in a goal for Raheen.

Half Time:

Edenderry 0-4
Raheen 1-3

Raheen were first off the mark in the second half with a point inside the first two minutes but it proved to be their last score for twenty minutes and Edenderry seized control. Jason Carey replaced Ger Noonan at half time and Jason was straight into action with a long ball into the Raheen goal mouth area and it was Cillian Farrell who was first to react as he finished the ball to the back of the net to tie the game at 1-4 apiece. Nine minutes later there was some great play from Martin Keogh who laid it off to Cillian Farrell who shot from half way and the umpire raised the white flag once again. Cillian pointed twice more in the twelfth and fifteenth minute from free's after fouls on Jason Carey and Martin Keogh. Raheen scored their last point of the game in the twenty second minute to leave two points between the sides. Sean Og Farrell was then introduced in place of Ger Hanlon for Edenderry in what was his first game back after fourteen months out injured. He made an immediate impact when he scored two points in the space of a minute before three further points from Cillian Farrell secured the win for the reds.

Full time:

This was arguably Edenderry's best performance this year in what has been a difficult season for the hurlers. Defensively they were very strong with David Hanlon excellent at centre back while up front Cillian Farrell provided some great scores. On the night they were best served by Derek Egan, David Hanlon, Daniel Nolan, Martin Keogh and Cillian Farrell

The March of the Reds'
Edenderry GAA will hold a Club Wide Fundraising event on Saturday 24th September 2011 incorporating all sections of the Club from Adult to underage and including the Ladies Club called 'The March of the Reds'. It is proposed to hold a Sponsored Walk followed by a Street Party on JKL St and the event is open to the whole community. For the majority of participants the Sponsored Walk will follow the route of Edenderry's finest amenity - along the bank of the Grand Canal from Edenderry Harbour to the Downshire Bridge and to Ticknevin Lock and back for the more serious walkers. The Club hopes to turn out in full strength with all members taking part at some level from the youngest Cúl Red to the oldest members in the Club. It is hoped that all participants will make an effort to wear their club colours for the walk and a staggered start time should allow for all walkers to return to JKL St. around the same time in order to kick off the Street Party. The Club would also encourage Business owners on JKL Street to display the Club Colours and support foe Edenderry GAA. All players, mentors and committees will be out in the next few weeks seeking sponsorship from the community for their efforts in the upcoming walk. Indeed for any keen walkers in Edenderry that would like to participate you are more than welcome and sponsorship cards are available from all team mentors and committee members. We ask the community to give generously to all our participants if approached over the coming weeks. With the sponsored walk constituting the first part of the upcoming big day the second part should be a lot of fun. The Club will be setting up a reception area on the public area opposite Brady's Spar/Edenderry Post Office on the day. As all the walkers return during the mid-afternoon on Saturday 24th the Street Party will commence. The finer details of the Street Party are being finalised at present however it is expected that there will be live music, BBQ and numerous street performers with plenty of activities for young children. The fun activities will continue for the afternoon and it is expected to finish up around 6pm on the Saturday evening. Later that night there will be a social event in the Oakwood Inn for the all of the Adult members of the Club. The organising committee will continue to meet every Thursday at 8pm in the GAA centre right up until the week of the event, if people are interested in getting involved you are more than welcome to join us. There will be continuing updates published in the local press in the coming weeks and also check our website and Facebook page for more information.

Edenderry GAA Golf Society Update
The Edenderry GAA Golf Society (Captain Ken Corcoran) held their captain's prize on Saturday last August 27th in the home turf of Edenderry Golf Club and the day turned out to be a wonderful occasion for the past, present and future reds. This was the third event of 2011 and after Johnny Brady's marvellous 41 points (6 under gross score) in Moyvalley and Greg Blong's wonderful 42 points in New Forrest we wondered whose turn was it to take to the winner's podium for the coveted captain's trophy.
A huge turnout of almost 30 players graced the course for the day and our winner came from another great Edenderry sporting family, with Fergal Brereton winning with a score of 38 points. Fergal was followed in second place by the youthful Alex Kenny on 36 points and in third place was Noel Cribben with 35 points. The three classes were all won by scores of 35 points, the captain himself Ken taking class A, Tony 'Beano' Farrell class B and another youth member Ciaran Farrell taking class C
The first nine prize was taken by Greg Blong with 18 points and the back nine prize was won by Liam 'Morley' Brereton with 19 points. Well done to all the winners and to all who took part on the day
The full results were:
First: Fergal Brereton 38 points. Second: Alex Kenny 36 points Third: Noel Cribben 35 points.
Class A: Ken Corcoran 35 points Class B: Tony Farrell 35 points Class C: Ciaran Farrell 35 points
Front Nine: Greg Blong 18 points Back Nine: Liam Brereton 19 points
Our Society would be lost without the generosity of our sponsors so we'd like to say a huge thanks to our sponsor for the Captain's day Willie Forde and indeed to the sponsors of our first 2 outings who where Eugene Byrne (Moyvalley) and Finbarr Cullen and Sean Grennan (New Forrest), it is much appreciated.
We are due one more outing in the next 4 weeks and Ken and the committee are hard at work hatching a grand plan as to where that outing should be so watch this space - all members will be notified in due course
