Monaghan county minor panel

MONAGHAN COUNTY MINOR PANEL.
Monaghan county minor team manager, Bernie Murray has named the following panel of players for training for the Ulster Minor Football League. Then panel was selected after a number of trials and challenge games but the final selection was delayed until after the Vocational Schools final and the McLarnon Cup semi final involving Patrician High School, Carrickmacross. The panel will be reviewed at the end of the Ulster Minor League in late April. Training started on Tuesday evening last March 2nd at Cloghan and Monaghan's first game in the Ulster Minor football League is on March 13th against Armagh. Team manager Bernie Murray is excited about the season ahead and when he spoke at the end of Tuesday night's training session he outlined the very detailed approach that had been adopted to drawing up this initial panel where himself and his selectors had watched schools and colleges matches over the last three or four months, they watched the matches that the Vocational Schools team had played and also some of the college matches in the MacRory Cup etc as well as holding trial games themselves. Bernie Murray also did some work with the County U17 development squad last year which gave him an in depth knowledge of the players at that level and there were also of course those who are eligible from last year's Ulster Minor championship team. "We are lucky in that we have seven players who played in the championship last year back on the panel this year and that gives us good base of experience and we will be using the Ulster minor football league to look further at the players that we have called in after the fairly exhaustive approach that we that we adopted. This was our first session tonight as we prepare for the five games we have in the Ulster minor football league. We will be trying to win those games and we will also be looking at players and putting a shape on the team that we will be fielding against either Armagh or Derry in the Ulster minor football championship. As well as that we will also be taking games every Tuesday night when the club minor league starts and if players are showing good form for their clubs who didn't make this initial panel then they can come in when the panel is reviewed at the end of the Ulster minor football league. After all that I hope to be in a position to announce a definitive championship panel on May 1st. Some players may be disappointed that they are not in at this stage but we will continue to monitor players and if they are showing the right form they can be called in later on". Bernie Murray too is very pleased with the backroom team that he has assembled where former Castleblayney and Monaghan players Paraic McDonald and Mick O'Dowd will be working along with him, both are men with a wealth of experience in both coaching and team management. "I think we have a great set up this year and with a little bit of luck, and you always need a little bit of luck, maybe we can do something special".
