Has the county board come out to defend one of our leading referees after last weekend? I thought that he had an excellent game overall and just missed the Crowley hit, which happened very quickly and he was unsighted. But the attention he has been given is outrageous. If the CB hasn't defended him its disgraceful, this mams place of work has been written in a national Newspaper, absolutely disgusting. Add to that he was attacked by people throwing objects at him. Only the lowest form do something like this royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 30/08/2016 14:55:31 1908142 Link 0 |
I though Gough had a poor game. He wasn't consistent. Mcmenamin fisted effort was waved wide and he went screaming to the ref and then got a 45 and a point out of it. What made the umpire change his mind ? Gough could not have seen it. Darren O'sullivan was pushed into the post by Johnny Copper. I don't remember him getting a card for dangerous play. Darren O'sullivan later had to go off. I am guessing getting pushed in the pole didn't help. I would not be happy if I was from Kerry. Dublin on the other hand have no problem with him. which says it all. bobkarlgees (Meath) - Posts: 1267 - 30/08/2016 15:15:57 1908154 Link 0 |
Totally agree with the posters, the CB should, and probably will, come out and defend Gough. He let plenty go on Sunday which helped make it the fantastic game it was. The shoulder that wasn't was a big decision that he got wrong but agree that the reaction from certain people is way over the top. I don't think the Meath Co Board should comment on this issue as they did not appoint him to officiate at the game. If any body should comment then it is the CCCC, (The national body that appoints referees for inter-county games). David Gough is a member of the GAA in Meath through his (presumed) membership of the Slane GAA Club. Why not ask Slane to comment as well? I'm not 100% sure on the player, but I think it was McMenamin as well, the player in question was on the receiving end of a similar challenge about 10 minutes earlier in the game. Uncle_Fester (Meath) - Posts: 217 - 30/08/2016 16:00:04 1908190 Link 0 |
Gough has nothing to do with St Judes. The link you sent has been photoshopped (see "Your text caption goes here. You can change the position of the caption and set styles in the block's settings tab_")....who would bother photoshopping a club GAA page to try and defame a referee? There is obviously a campaign out there to get at Gough and he should be defended by his county men and real Gaels. Crinigan (Meath) - Posts: 1352 - 30/08/2016 17:07:48 1908241 Link 3 |
i agree here he had a poor game but in fairness if the county board come out and defend him then they have to come out after every game a meath official is receiving criticism then they will have to do this every time Coldrick is seen to have a bad game also its not feasible. i don't agree with the level of criticism he is receiving and throwing objects at a ref is unacceptable.

Look football is a very hard game to referee..it has more bad referee decision than any sport in the world. WhyTheLongFace (Meath) - Posts: 942 - 30/08/2016 19:10:48 1908311 Link 3 |
I would agree with you and the previous poster. I though Gough did a good job and a lot better than any Ref I have seen this year. Kerry did not complain when the Ref against Mayo let a number of fouls go unpunished. The lost the match on the field of play and on the side line in the last 10 minutes. There are posters here who blame the County Board for all sorts of things. My advise would be that they should wise up before making stupid comments. Meath CB has nothing to do with appointing the Ref for the AI series and they are correct to say nothing.

he gave the dubs two soft frees in the 2nd half when they were chasing the game and the 45 decision was comical,i agree he was a bit unsighted for the hit near the end but if i was a kerry supporter i would be disappointed with his performance overall.I was delighted he didn't produce the stupid black cards that have to go IMO.He had an okay game and did not deserve the treatment he got BUT PUT THE SHOE ON THE OTHER FOOT ???? IF IT WAS MEATH LAST SUNDAY IN KERRY'S SHOES WOULD WE FEEL DISGRUNTLED ?? thelutch (Meath) - Posts: 1094 - 30/08/2016 21:14:07 1908381 Link 0 |
Quite a lot of supporters feel disgruntled when a referee gives any free against their team-nothing new in that, more to do with the quality of fair weather supporters who never attend a club match.
