C'ship fixtures - Meath website

(Oldest Posts First)

Down to the last 4 in the top 3 football championships and not a sign of fixtures on Meath GAA site? Maybe they are buried somewhere but I can't find them in fixtures section or in individual c'ahip section. Bit of a joke. Have dates even been fixed yet?

The CCC meet on a Tuesday evening so there's a fair chance the fixtures will come out tomorrow. The games aren't scheduled for a couple of weeks yet so there's no need for the details to be out as yet. Teams know the weekend of the fixtures so they don't need to know the excact throw in times just now.

This feels like slating the County Board just for the sake of it.

It's nothing to do with slating the co board, if that's a by-product of my comment then so be it.

I just find it odd that there's only 3 games left in each c'ship and there's nothing fixed. The IFC semis were meant to be last Sunday, and the website said as much a little over a week ago before it was changed. Then it said Monday Tues next week. Now there's nothing up there again. Call it a criticism if you want. I'm just pointing out the facts. Surely once the 1/4 finals are over they should be able to say "semi-finals are on this date, finals on this date".

So IFC fixtures are confirmed. Monday and Tuesday night. Call me a traditionalist, but it seems like missing a trick having these 2 games on at 8pm. What should be two cracking games...

Like how hard is to fix these games a lot of people work abroad or have plans and every year the county board seem inept in setting fairly straight forward fixtures especially at this stage with so little teams left it should be very straightforward.

Also they done a good job running off games during the summer then all of a sudden decided to leave massive gaps between games for senior and junior.

I think fixtures are ran off very well by Meath CCC. Some people might want to know fixtures well in advance or expect football every weekend but reality is that there is hurling fixtures to consider too and usually it's football/hurling alternative weeks which is fair to all.

They must have been listening ;-)

Fixtures are out now.

Well based on the latest release of fixtures, the Trim Duel players are in for a hell of a busy month. Hurling Quarter final vs Blackhall on the 19th(should win), 3 days rest/training later they play Intermediate football semi against Nobber(would not rule out a win), Hurling semifinal has to be played weekend of 26th/27th(4/5 days rest/training and should beat kildalky. Possible Inter Football final on 4th(after week of traing/rest) followed by a possible Senior Hurling final following week of 11th.

And people complain about why their junior fooball and senior football games are spaced out over a couple of weeks.

I doubt they'd be complaining if that came to pass though. If they've balanced it so far with hurling and football, plus a few lads on the U21s, they're probably capable of keeping at it. Course, they've to actually get there first, and while Trim should beat Blackhall Gaels, Kildalkey are in no way a gimme.

Smallhouse look at the planner and yes your are traditionalist Dublin play games mid week and even have played Senior Finals also. To be fair a full 3 weeks before they to be played the Football Semis are out which is a lot more notice than normal. It a bit strange all the same that the Hurling semis the Week before are not out maybe they waiting to see how the games go this weekend. To me it seems like a bit of knocking just for the sake of knocking

Re championship fixtures in all grades

1 Football champ.2015 started in
mid-April with 2 Games out of 5 group games which were over in a fortnight,
+ then None for a month
+ then 1Game on the 3rd week of May
+ then None for June
+ then None for July
+ then 2 Games from mid-August to end of August
+ then 1 in September and senior semi + Final in early October ( other grades have 2 in Sept + 1 Final game in October)

2 Hurling Championships didnt start until mid-June and have some quarter finals down to be played this weekend.

3 The Hurling Championships have 7 exclusively hurling clubs and 15 hurling & football clubs.

4.Adult dual players represent a substantially smaller number of the total playing in Championships.

5. Factors affecting football fixtures appear to include
when the intercounty team trains or plays;
club League fixtures;
Feis & tailteann cups fixtures etc
the availability of referees & suitable venues
daylight

Having regard to the above,
A is it reasonable not to play any football championship games for 2 and 1/2 months during the longest days of the year?
B Are exclusively football and hurling weekends essential having regard to requirements?
C Are Championship fixtures more important than other club fixtures?
D Can league fixtures go ahead while intercounty players are unavailable?
E Are 2 games in April too many?
F Could it be more clearcut?
G Can you suggest any changes to make fixtures more player & club friendly?
H Constructive criticism would help on subject
Over to you?

Dont know enough about hurling to make educated comments other than it is extremely skilful when played well.

I was looking for the planner but was having trouble finding it. It's not exactly flagged up on homepage. Ah, there it is. All tucked away down there...

As predicted yesterday the fixtures came out today. I've criticised aspects of the Co. Board before and i'm sure will do again in the future but to be giving out that fixtures weren't out a full three weeks in advance of the game beggars belief. Teams have an idea when they will be on from the master planner which all clubs receive and some display on their own websites or social media pages. And if they don't then they're always on the Meath website under the news/info tab and then by clicking downloads. Simple really.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to next week's games, hoping to catch an intermediate semi-final and the senior relegation play off. Then attention will turn to the Senior semi-finals.

Bring it on.

Would not agree with 2 relegated or maybe more so two teams from IFC promoted. When this was done in Meath it was not liked. Other than that it is a straight forward simple plan that would take 6/7 dates to run. It is based on the Christy Ring system that is used at Minor Championship in Meath and seems to run Ok there.

The only question I would ask is that as this is the system used in Kildare and Cavan would it be more competitive. Kildare/Cavan County teams dont seem to be exactly thriving on it ?

Very good concept MeathGAAHead. Open draw after each round to spice it up to en sure teams cant plot an eas route.
Can be completed with 6 or 7 dates and unlike current system every game counts! No non-events.
Down side being a team could come through winners side unbeaten but lose the semi final and theyre gone. Ala All-Ireland Quarter final were provincial winner can go out.

2 up 2 down adds to the importance of every fixture.

Thumbs-up here.

Structure of adult championships will do little to improve Meath team except increase intensity as every game will count so it'll help equip players to focus the mind.

Meath team will improve as focus increases on high end coaching starting at U6.

I agree with Ziggy, saw the Meath U14s recently and I know some of the coaches and whatever they are doing appears to be good as for young players they really work well together.
