League fixtures 2014

(Oldest Posts First)

How come the football league fixtures have been released and no sign of the hurling fixtures. Same old story with the county board forget about the hurling, and push on with the football.

Football always stats a few weeks earlier than the hurling. The league groups for the hurling are smaller with 6 or 7 teams instead of 12 or 14. Also the ground is not suitable now for hurling.

As a hurler and mainly hurling fan in the county I am really sick of this attitude of many people who regard themselves as hurling fans or players. It's always a poor us attitude, the county board hates hurling, we don't get the same treatment as football clubs etc. I agree this does happen, but far less frequently than it used to. If you had bothered to have a quick read through the HS Meath page, you would find the round by round fixtures for the hurling league here , and you will also find the fixture guide on the county board website here

So its about time some of my fellow hurling fans lose the bad attitude, I think this year we have a brilliant chance to do very well in both codes and there is no reason why all of the county can't get behind our county teams in both hurling and football

Totally agree hurlingroyal, some people seem to thrive on the victim mentality.

The hurling league fixtures were probably released comparatively earlier than the football ones. Aswell as that the junior hurling league groups and pairings are already out, but none for the junior football, don't see anyone complaining about that though, since it would take away from the "poor hurling, always done out of it" idea.

Only round 1 done but what do people reckon on Leagues, OMahonys despite their hick up are still favourites with Summerhill laying down a marker. Simonstown could be in the shake up but probably will suffer more than most as the play without their County men. Skryne will improve as Oldcastle and Duleek and maybe Na Fianna and Tones in relegation mire.

Div 2
Blackhall look good to bounce back while Moynalvey, Walterstown and Rathkenny will also want to get Div 1 status but I think Ratoath might be there also. Looks like another tough league campaign for Kilmainham, Trim St Michaels while Dunderry and Cortown will be watching the trap door.

Div 3
Syddan made a big statement but Drumbaragh will get promoted and maybe Ballinabrackey, St Ultans or Clan na Gael. Drumconrath, Kilmainhamwood Meath Hill, Carnaross and maybe Ballivor to fight the drop.

Div 4
They may as well promote Longwood and Curraha as they will walk through this Division all the rest will be also rans.

the fixture makers in meath have a very hard job, considering so many clubs I think only Dublin, cork and galway have more clubs and there all cities. leafue finals in both codes were played before nov the last h=few years and chsp dosent drag on until November like it used to. as a hurling fan I have to agree theres a serious chip on the shoulder of some hurling supporters. I know a good few players and they will tell you they get treated just as well as the footballers. personally I think its right not to be playing hurling til march a bit of hardness in the ground. if memory serves didn't dunboyne v navan play the league final on a scorcher in june last year?? what do some people want ? meath hurling needs good support not bitterness from anti football people. the reason football gets so much coverage is because theres 80% more intrest by the population in hurling over football its just that simple, I don't think theres any vendetta, id say its a lot worse in Kildare, laois, down etc
