Meath Junior Team 2012

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Great to hear Pat Coyle is over the Meath Juniors again this year. It'll be a great distraction from the disaster thats going on with the Senior team. Whats peoples suggested teams??
I'd imagine players who'll feature will include the likes of:
Damien Carroll(Ballinabrackey)
Andrew Tormey(Don/Ash, I don't think he played senior club football last year)
Rory Maguire(Longwood)
David Drew(Gaeil Colmcille)
Anthony Forde(Moynalvey)
Cillian O'Sullivan(Moynalvey)
Mairtin and Derek Doran(Ballivor)
Sean Corrigan(Ballivor)
Marty Mulhall(Bective)
David Coyle(Curraha)
Neil Shorthall(Curraha)
Steven Clynch(Dunsany)
Micky Newman(Kilmainham, if available)
William McGrath(Moylagh)
Ollie Lewis(Na Fianna)
Harry Silke(Na Fianna)
Bryan McMahon(Ratoath)
Cormac Drew(St.Marys)
Ciaran Lynch(St.Michaels)

What do people think??

Who are they up against tony?

A fairly strong team as usual I expect. But Kildare will take some beating, they have a great system in place for their juniors. Cavan will be decent enough aswell.

I'd say they're out in May but I'm unsure who against. Pat will have the team well prepared so I'd be very confident of us going a long way in the competition.

Is Willie McGrath not going to Boston for the summer? Could be wrong but heard it from a good few people.

Tackleberry some of the lads on the above list have being there for the past few years I think it is about time we had a change and give some younger lads a chance that they could use a platform to get on the senior stage...sum that come to mind include a yound wing back from d wood I think his name is Philip Moran he is a quick and tough young footballer and I recall he played with a few Meath underage teams and another player from the wood is Niall McCabe he is only playin for them in the last year or so but he is a good tidy corner back..

This is the perfect example of whats wrong with meath football. This Junior Squad should already be picked, and should be training all year. It should be a stepping stone for the senior team. It should be made up of young lads who have represented meath at U21 level, and are aspiring to get on the Senior Panel. No has-beens or 30 year olds who are clearly never going to make it at senior intercounty level. This was proposed by the think-tank headed by Colm O'Rourke that was set up a few years ago.
I think its hilarious that everyone here is demanding change to the countys structures, but no one has any proposals to back it up.
This is a very obvious change that could be made to the county structures, but will it happen?

I agree with you there Lebowski. I was talking to a Kildare man the other day who plays club football with a couple of the Kidare Juniors. He says they have been doing the same training as the senior panel all over the winter - individual gym programs and all. Effectively it is their B team, and lads are on the Junior panel wih the sole aim of seeing if they are good enough for the seniors, and having them (senior) championship ready in case they are needed later in the year. The Kildare Juniors ended up playing in the O'Byrne cup final and would have easily beaten DCU had the management not started making wholesale changes with 15 minutes to go.
Meanwhile we will probably start gathering a panel together a month before the championship is due to start. Anyone fancy putting money on the Meath Juniors to beat Kildare his year?

Ya bet me to that very point.

I definatly think an age cap or sopme sort of criteria (apart from club grade) should be put in place to ensure that Junior is about producing 3 - 4 players each year that can step into the senior squad.

Surely if we had a panel of 25 lads all under the age of 24/25 in an intercounty enviroment each year then the top 3 or 4 each year should be able to compliment the senior squad.

For those of you suggesting Cillian O'Sullivan, even assuming he is good enough for the team, he is already busy with the Minor Footballers and is doing the leaving cert this year, so I can't really see it happening.

Think the point regarding the junior team being set up as a booster team is a super idea. Love to see this happening, however, I wonder would players in Meath have the appetite to do all this training all year long for juniors? Trying not to be negative, but realistic. Love the idea though, and to implement this would be simple providing the players shared the enthusiasm of the fans

I don't understand the logic of having players from second teams such as don/ash or summerhill on the team if they were good enough they'd be on the first team in their clubs.Unless their coming back from injury or travelling and simply missed a year of football.

Making the Meath juniors a 2nd team for the seniors or a booster team is a great idea but you still need a blend of experience and a few lads who cannot fully commit to the seniors. Few names that would be worth a go on the juniors are
Liam Hogan curraha/1 of the Dunsany keepers/Shane Gerathy na fianna,
Burke Dunsany Malone Bective, conor Mcgill ratoath, Anthony Forde moynalvy, Donohue moynalvy, Balinabracky center back, nicky Judge, Eoin Lynch |Rory maguire Longwood, Paeder Bryne Ballinlough, Justin Carry Lynch Brian Hanlon kells, Young and Rowe Syddan, Mark Brennan Dunsany, Mulhall Bective, Bobby o Brien and mcmahon Rathoath, ciaran mcconnell bective, gavin coyle curraha, tormey ashbourne, richie hogan king Henry finno NOM, willie Mcgrath moylough, Mickie Newman kilmainham.
Thats a very strong team and i haven included a few lads i missed.
