I remember being at the game. As far as I can remember it was a tempestuous enough outing. I think Robbie O'Malley was sent off. One of 3 and something tells me one of the others was a second Meath player. I can look up line-ups and scorers for you if you want. I'm one of those who never throws out a match programme or a ticket stub. Greenfield (Meath) - Posts: 524 - 16/12/2010 10:54:57 833764 Link 0 |
yeah i remember that game too the place was jammers, all i really remember is it was a h**r of a long walk from where jimmy cudden parked the bus to the ground!!i remember another league game against westmeath back in the 90s too dont think it was in mullingar cos i remember standing on a grass bank watching it and the pitch seemed to be in the middle of nowhere,we won handy enough.they were after changing the leagues from divsion 1 2 etc to a b c etc and mixing it up in ability terms i think london and mightve been in our group too stamullenman (Meath) - Posts: 392 - 16/12/2010 11:47:08 833798 Link 0 |
stamullenman i think that game was in athlone. i remember being on the bank and having to walkthrough a mucky field from the car. as you say, the pitch just seemed to be walled in in the middle of about 5 acres. Greenfield (Meath) - Posts: 524 - 16/12/2010 15:25:07 833959 Link 0 |
Meath v Down in 1990 NFL in Pairc Tailteann, game finished 1-10 apiece from what I remember and it was good oul battle for a league match in february. O'Halloran from moynalvey looked like the real deal back then but drifted away. bennyblanco (Meath) - Posts: 579 - 16/12/2010 15:39:56 833978 Link 0 |
NFL Semi Final against Cork in Croker in the late 90s. The reason I remember it so clearly is because it was easily the worst Meath game I've ever attended. Ratoath Royal (Meath) - Posts: 1387 - 17/12/2010 15:48:46 834579 Link 0 |
Meath v Roscommon 1990 NFL played in the diluted swamp that was Kiltoom, took a hiding by 16 points and Brian Stafford had a goal bound shot saved by a pool of water in the goalmouth. Mind you the local club provided soup and tea in the clubhouse which was top notch. Following game was a 12 point stuffing by Antrim in Casement Park and yet we still qualified for the quarter finals where, if I remember correctly, we beat Donegal in a last quarter comeback and ultimately won the National League, ah heady days indeed. Was at that match. Match was changed from Roscommon to Kiltoom about an hour before throw in. The St Brigids club had to try to cope with a crowd arriving late having already been to Roscommon with very few stewards in place because of short notice. Some of the Meath supporters were a disgrace. Climbed over walls sheds and generally wrecked the place. Anybody that has been to Kiltoom will agree that it is one of the most friendly clubs you could visit and regularly provide complimentary soup tea and sandwiches for visiting supporters. kingofclubs (Meath) - Posts: 350 - 20/12/2010 13:35:24 835634 Link 0 |
The first game in 91 against tyrone was a great game. David beggy got 1-7. 5 from frees that day. We won by one point in the end after being down by 12 half time. Boylan brought on the big guns in second half after startin a few lads from northmeath junior clubs in the first. sammaguire99 (Meath) - Posts: 45 - 20/12/2010 19:58:02 836091 Link 0 |

HarrietPotter i remember that match alright and Letrim were very unlucky...it was lashing, it was a very average Meath team and they were lucky to win, if I remember correctly Murphy replaced PByrne about 3 mins from the end of normal time. Byrne had been one of Meaths best players and most Meath fans were giving out that Boylan had taken him off, Murphy got the ball with 2 or 3 Letrim lads in close proximity but he somehow managed to get a shoot off and save Meath. The Meath team included the likes of Fay, Geraghty, D Gallagher, Tommy O' Connor and David Crimmins. Thunderstruck (Meath) - Posts: 474 - 22/12/2010 13:59:35 836976 Link 0 |

Also does many people remember the centenary cup back in 1984 which kick started the glory years under boylan, meath hammered cavan in the semie final in croker, colm coyle got a great goal and so did bernie flynn in his first start for meath, and went on to beat monaghan in a great final. tailteannpark (Meath) - Posts: 174 - 31/12/2010 14:34:13 838331 Link 0 |
