George Beirne was asked to join the squad when he was captain of the county minors. He was studying hard at the time though. He won a minor championship with BHG that year aswell. My player of the year when BHG won the keegan in 03. He had a great game in the 08 a leauge division 1 final aswell when BHG bet tones. I think they asked him into the squad after that aswell.
John l mgee is another one of my favourites. Was solid for the county juniors for a good while.
Dathi white would have made most weaker county teams but Meath were exceptional when he was in his prime.
Dean barret had potential but its a bit late for him now i think.
I always admired ronan farelly. Skill, Strenght , Determanation what more could you ask for. The lads around him made him look average though.
It a plain and simple disgrace thagh brosnan wasnt in the squad for the 01 final. If he was there to take that peno we could have another all ireland.
Niall O Reilly was a rock for summerhill but wasnt givin a fair crack at the whip.

Did Niall O' Reilly transfer away from Summerhill? He was a very good player a few years back but I havent heard of him playing in 5 or 6 years and he is only 30 or 31.

I am surprised to hear that, i remember playing against him a few times and I was sure he would follow in his brothers foot-steps...I think he played full-back for the county U-21's for 3 years in a row; Ken Gannon (Dunboyne) was another player around the same age who had huge potential but never played much after U-21 level...I remember Gannon got Man of the match in the county final for Dunboyne around 2000 I think; everyone was saying he was going to be a big hit with Meath but he was off the scene soon afterwards.

Ronan farelly played championship. Its not fair to say the players around made him look bad. We are now in the top 8 teams in the county. Feis cup final still to play.

Did Mick O'Dowd never play c'ship for Meath? Don't think I ever seen it anyway!
The players round Ronan Farrelly made him look average??? That must be the Meath players your talking about so? Don't think Oldcastle have had many players capable of making him look average!!

Oldcastle struggled for a good few years when Ronan was in his prime. He wouldnt have had a great platform. Maybe if had got a transfer he would have made it.
Mick O Dowd was good but not county standard.

Chiefexecutive you're wrong - thats not just my opinion but fact given that Mick O' Dowd was a member of the Meath team for a couple of years and played in the AI semi final against Kerry in 2001, while you're entitled to your view i think you have to bow to the experience of the manager who picked him i.e. the one who lead us to 4 all irelands and knew a thing or two about players of county standard

The corner forward from Baconstown/Na Fianna a few years ago, Paul Hanley was it? Remember him being a great player and scoring all Na Fianna's scores in an intermediate championship match a number of years ago when they beat O'Mahonys.
