Think it's on day before All-Ireland hurling final, that's when it was last year! Was a great day out, Boardsmill from Meath were there last year, think they were beaten in every game!! Can't remember who won but the losing teams were certainly drowning their sorrows in the clubhouse bar after which led for a great day in all! The football sevens is very good as well, thats on before All-Ireland football final! Ratoath lad (Meath) - Posts: 27 - 03/08/2010 16:23:38 734459 Link 0 |

johnhanlon, what was the point of that. you obviously were not there last year. it was a great weekend, (pity tipp didn't win the all Ireland the next day), but the hurling 11's was great day out. credit to the organizers and i presume its back there again this year, and they deserve it with the facility of rathoath. manfromthesouth (Tipperary) - Posts: 6 - 03/08/2010 17:56:24 734614 Link 0 |

Greatest game in the world, played by honest men but there is no accounting for small minded people cairdeiom (Dublin) - Posts: 2 - 03/08/2010 18:03:50 734631 Link 0 |

Good lad John juat jump to conclusions there, here did I say anywhere that I was even playing? I don't playu hurling, I went down to watch the day's action and see hurling from Kilkenny, Tipperary, Cork etc played at a very high standard, higher than anything seen in Meath and all with a smile on players and mentors faces which is different from really compettive fare! If you read my post correctly you also would have seen that I said most of the teams that got knocked out went back to the clubhouse for food, drink and banter. I forgot you are the ultimate professional and would never consider having a bit of craic with players and clubs you would never otherwise get the chance to play against or come into contact with. I'd say you are the life and soul of your club alright! Ratoath lad (Meath) - Posts: 27 - 04/08/2010 09:59:20 735055 Link 0 |

Johnhanlon, what exactly is your problem with hurling? You've posted a few comments on this site slating it! Do you not think it is a good sport, and do you not think the hurling people in Meath are trying their utmost to keep it alive and progress it in the county? Or are you just a WUM? John, once again I ask you to read my post, I said I don't play hurling, I never have, I was merely saing that it is a great day out when craic is had by all, from clubs from all counties throughout Ireland, and not only Meath lads drinking like you seem to think. Also, there are a lot of local young boys and girls who come to watch and if you are ever around Ratoath on a Saturday or Sunday morning, go down to the pitch and you will see hundreds of young boys and girls trainin away in football hurling and camogie. After watching some of the best players around their interest is greatly increased. In fact, despite what you say, I think it is great having this in Meath as we can see what the best clubs are doing and can ask where we are going wrong and how, as a county, we can improve. You also say no progress has been made in 15 years...in recent times Meath have won minor and U21 Leinster Titles, also a minor all-Ireland title and our senior side won a national trophy in Croke Park last day on the same day the senior footballers beat Westmeath down in Cusack Park in the soaking rain! Wining b titles and third teir championships isnt progress. Meath have always picked up 1 or 2 of these worthless cups every few years. Hundreds of 5 to 10 year olds running around waving sticks is hardly anything to be proud of but if thats what your into. Hurling in meath is a joke. The stats dont lie. johnhanlon (Meath) - Posts: 73 - 04/08/2010 19:39:44 736191 Link 0 |

John, you do like to rant on. Why don't you lend your vast experience and cork know how to Meath hurling. It sounds like you have a superiority complex of the backs of your fellow Cork hurlers. Maybe visit the people in Ratoath that the Ratoath Lad is talking about with your medals and cups while you are over there watching the Hurling 11s in September. 3feetoftimber (Meath) - Posts: 113 - 05/08/2010 12:01:18 736615 Link 0 |

who cares about the hurling. its not about how many pints u score on the pitch, its how many u can down in the clubhouse afterwards 32_4_1 (Meath) - Posts: 4211 - 06/08/2010 18:37:18 738615 Link 0 |

I'll be there volunteering on a pitch hopefully. Missed it last year but from what I heard it was a fantastic day with some amazing hurling. Something we're not really used to down these parts. Ratoath Royal (Meath) - Posts: 1466 - 31/08/2010 21:03:40 761947 Link 0 |

Well lads, do teams of the same grades from different counties play each other? i.e. does a Meath Intermediate team play against a Kilkenny Intermediate team?..or do they play a Kilkenny Junior team? eduardo (Meath) - Posts: 36 - 01/09/2010 15:37:49 762581 Link 0 |

Think it's inter teams from counties who compete in Liam McCarty, senior teams for all other counties. CarryOnHurling (Meath) - Posts: 169 - 01/09/2010 16:11:55 762634 Link 0 |
