Liam Harnan resigns as Meath U-16 Manager

(Oldest Posts First)

This is probally one of the biggest set backs to confront Meath Football in recent times. Harnan had built a decent team of selectors/helpers around him many of whom had All Ireland medals like himself. Something which the Forum in Trim earlier in the year had suggested that this type of set up to copy what goes on in Kilkenny would be a step forward in Meath football.

Sadly this set back is one that needs to be sorted quickly

from what i heard he had a super line up of selectors kevin foley, tommy dowd and martin o connell and minor board would nt let him have peter o halloran as his liason officer.....and the clash with hurling was last straw after he gave 2 months notice for his training session...WHY ARE COUNTY BOARD LETTING THIS HAPPEN

This is a real shame. That management team is suberb and should have the full support of the county board at all times. A huge blow for underage football in the county just when it looked like it may be given a much needed boost.

Needless BULL LIKE THIS HAPPENING IS exactly why a COUNTY like MEATH need MORE experienced past players like the THE HARNAN, DOWD, FOLEY and OCONNELL TYPES INVOLVED instead of THE clueless 'my clubs players or my son is brilliant' jobsworth types and wannabe politico types in an underage county structure.
Hmmm! A while coming but yes, that felt good!
Im away now to slay a few dragons and rescue a few damsels in distress!
Up Meath forever! Its bigger and better than any one of us.

The core of the problem lies with the Minor Board.

Disgrace.

Do not know the ins and outs of Harnans decision but.....

How do the County Board justify thier decisions, probably to themselves.

A few AI semi-finals have glossed over a shocking set-up in the county.

Time for change.

harnan pulled out cause they wouldnt let him train same time as hurlers.the board knew his dates for training for couple months, pure rubbish they dont want progression at all.i feel mad with harnan too he walked to easily.and his shoes were filled very quickly by dudley,i think here lies lot of the problem same old same old.for us too move forward we need change of personnel and people with ideas to progress, lot of underage talent goes elsewhere to other sports before they get good chance at teams.

The problem lies with the County Board and this type of carry on has being going on for many years. Underage teams have been picked over the years by who you know with managers playing their own relations (sons etc). You usually find that the bulk of underage teams are made up from the clubs of the management,/ selectors . Football in the county has disimproved since the establishment of development squads and all the carry on that goes along with it. However it would have been refreshing for a change to have former players running the show as against guys managing who never won anything or never played at county level

So its final Liam Harnan is gone along with him Tommy Dowd, Mark OReilly, Kevin Foley, Mattie McCabe, Mickey McQuailian, plus other good men like Paddy Diamond, Thomas Farrelly, Phil Fay and George Clarke.

There must be serious coaching talent in Meath to allow this set up to slip away without a whimper.

The 2009 manager and selectors considered not good enough a few months ago are reinstated.

One step forward and to put in mildly two steps back
