Are Walterstown to be suspended?

(Oldest Posts First)

Has anybody heard about the latest ploy by the county board to avoid playing the relegation play-off. It was postponed yesterday as Mark McCormack who plays for Walterstown also plays for Kiltale under-21s who were fixed to play their final. Even though nobody from Walterstown or Kiltale asked for the match to be postponed the county board took it upon themselves to do it. This would raise the questions why fix the two games for the same day in the first place. Anyway thats beside the point. Walterstown were called to a meeting last week in Trim with the county board about the use of their all weather pitches. The county board said that they were being used outside the rules of the GAA. The penalty for this breach of the rules is suspension from all competitions. This is going to take place tonight at the county board meeting. Where is this all going to end? Hopefully the club delegates will make their voices heard at the agm and sort the county board out.

dont see how the gaa can have rules regarding the use of clubs all weather pitches! makes no sense at all and i dont believe it one bit. it is being used as an extra way of making money for the club when they rent it out for people to use. has nothing to do with the county board really

it states in the rules of the gaa that club grounds and facilities can only be used for the purposes intended by the gaa. and only football, hurling and handball can be played there. those are the rules and always have been. there is also an exception which was put in place for renting croke park. so yes it has to do with the county board as they govern all clubs within the county and yes you should believe it because its happening tonight.

Very much doubt any club would be suspended from all competitions for something like this.
Sure clubs hafta raise a few quid somehow & its going on in probably every club that had such facilities so why single them out.
Im sure theyd appeal itto a higher authority anyway!

Is this the same GAA that alows soccer in Croke Park??they'd find it very hard to suspend them if they are opening their HQ for soccer.

ye he does have a point because if walterstown are suspended it means the rathekenny match can't be played, bit too convenient for my liking.

The county board pulled it from the agenda at the last minute. There having seperate meeting with all clubs who have all weather pitches. No club will be allowed soccor clubs use them or allowed orgainsed soccor leagues be played on club grounds.

I think everyone in the county knows who`s idea it was. I dont agree with Walterstown and the way they handled it but its looking like Rathkenny against Duleek & from there i dont know but for gods sake everyclub tries there best to keep afloat & if it means renting it out to foreign sports then so be it,Croke Park chiefs say its alight for them to take money in and clubs around the county that struggle with payments are`nt aloud?
