Kilmainham's Gerard Morgan holds on to the ball as Bective's Ruairi Russell moves in during the Meath JFC at Bohermeen
Three first half converted penalties were crucial as Kilmainham grabbed a win in the JFC at Bective's expense. Kilmainham........5-8 Bective ........1-13 Kilmainham remain unbeaten after beating Bective on Saturday night. Kilmainham got off to a great start when Sean Brosnan opened the scoring with a well taken goal. At this stage of the game the Kilmainham attack looked very dangerous and when Sean Brosnan was dragged to the ground by a Bective defender in the box the referee awarded a penalty which Michael Newman scored. The game had hardly restarted when Davey Farnan was fouled in the box and the referee awarded another penalty to Kilmainham, and once again Michael Newman converted. Even at this early stage Kilmainham looked to have done enough to win the match but Bective fought back with three points. However the referee gave a third penalty when Philip Mooney was taken down in the box. Michael Newman once again stepped up and calmly scored his third goal. The half time score was Kilmainham 4-4, Bective 0-5. At the start of the second half Kilmainham scored a fifth goal through the very impressive Danny Buttler. However, after this Kilmainham looked very lethargic. Bective were much the better side in the second half and if they did not give Kilmainham such a large half time lead the result might have much different. Kevin Jordan was outstanding in the Kilmainham goals in the second half pulling off two fantastic saves. Bective did eventually score a goal but at that stage it was just too little too late. Best for Kilmainham were Gavin Buttler , Danny Buttler, Denis Newman and Kevin Jordan. Kilmainham: K.Jordan; D. Newman, P. Curran, M. Fallon; J. Mahon G. Morgan,D O Sullivan; G. Buttler (0-1), M. Newman (3-4); S. Buttler, D. Farnan, S. Mahon(0-1), S. Brosnan (1-1). D. Buttler (1-1), P. Mooney. Subs - T Foley for D. Farnan, S. Woods for P Mooney, F. Black for S. Brosnan, D. Morgan for D.
