Ladies: Intermediate and Junior c-ship round up
August 05, 2013

No room for Summerhill's Julianne Scanlon as Simonstown's Grainne Harrington, Eve Wardick and Aisling Cassidy close in during the Meath Ladies Division 3 FL Final at Walterstown.
With the Senior Championships taking a break ahead of the All Ireland Qualifiers on August 10th, round 3 of the Meath Ladies club championships went ahead in the Intermediate and Junior grades this last week. In the Intermediate Championship, Summerhill got their first win of their campaign with a five point win over Clann na nGael. With both teams losing out to Navan O'Mahonys, this was a chance for both teams to put the defeats behind them and look for all three points. It was a close affair with Summerhill the team to come out on top with a 1-10 to 0-08 win.
In a back match, St. Michaels opened their Intermediate championship account with a 3-17 to 2-07 win over Ratoath. Ratoath had defeated Moynalvey in their opening round and were looking to continue in the same vein, but it was not to be. St. Michaels had a commanding 1-07 to 0-04 lead at half time, the points coming from Leanne Lynch (2), Aisleen Regan (2), Megan O'Brien, Alicia Curtis and Erin McGrane (one each) and a goal well taken by Jillian Brogan. Two goals early in the second half from Leanne Lynch and Erin McGrane put victory out of reach of the home side, but 2-02 in seven minutes from Ratoath made the Carlanstown side work even harder to close out the match. Close defending from Mary Clinton, Anna McQuaid, Gillian Curtis and Alana Kernan made certain St. Michaels victory.
St. Michaels & scorers...
Alana Kernan, Marita Rogers, Mary Clinton, Elaine Dolan, Gillian Curtis, Hayley Doyle, Anna McQuaid, Sinead McCormack 0-3, Megan O'Brien 0-1, Fiona Nevin 0-2, Alicia Curtis 0-1, Jillian Brogan 1-0, Erin McGrane 1-2, Aisleen Regan 0-4, Leanne Lynch 1-2. Subs : Ellen Cassidy 0-1 for Anna McQuaid, Suzanne Reilly 0-1 for Fiona Nevin, Lisa Keenan for Alicia Curtis, Ann-Marie Keyes for Aisleen Regan.
In the Junior A Championship, table toppers Dee Rangers travelled to Simonstown. The game was pulsating from start to finish with the Division 2 League Champions Dee Rangers battling hard to pull off a 2-13 to 3-05 win over the home side. Simonstown will take positives from the defeat with their goals coming from Naoise de Graaff, Regina Hand and a cracker of a goal from Emily McAteer. Dee Rangers worked industriously all over the pitch with Lisa Young, Hannah Mulvaney and Shauna Rowe impressive for the winners. Should these sides meet again, the match will not be one to miss.
Also in the Junior A Championship, Walterstown travelled to Dunsany for their round 3 encounter. With Dunsany defeated in their opening two championship games and Walterstown registering three points against St. Colmcilles, this game was all to play for. The first half belonged to Dunsany with Walterstown trailing by 1-02 to 0-06 at half time with an Emily Davis goal the difference between the sides. It was a tightly fought contest and produced some great defensive displays from both teams. Dunsany were lucky not to have two goals of their own with Walterstown goalkeeper Martina O'Neill and the post denying them. In the second half, the woodwork was kept busy denying Walterstown on three occasions. A second Emily Davis goal put Walterstown four in front, with a further point from Jane O'Connell putting the Navan side five in front. A mix up in the Walterstown defence put Dunsany through for their goal and despite a strong Dunsany fightback, Walterstown hung on to win by a single point and go joint top of the Junior A Championship with Dee Rangers.
In the Junior B Championship, a ten point haul from Therese Fox ensured Moylagh took all three points from their battle with Wolfe Tones played in Moylagh. Moylagh led by one at the break with Therese Fox, Caoimhe Hannon, Aoife Gibney and Donna Garry impressing for the winners. Ballivor continued their 100% record in the Junior B Championship with a commanding win over Na Fianna B. A 2-04 haul from Sinead Burke, alongside two goals from in form Orla Leonard paved the way for victory with Denise Fitzsimons (1-02), Laura Grant (0-04) and Hannah McKeown (0-01) also on the scoreboard for the winners.
