Donegal-Mayo tie may be switched

February 06, 2009
Donegal's second round National Football League clash with Mayo next weekend could be switched from Ballybofey to Letterkenny. The game has been fixed for MacCumhaill Park on Saturday night week, February 10. However, it has emerged that work on the new dressing-rooms are not yet complete and that the only dressing-rooms available may not be up to the required standard. They will be inspected by Croke Park officials in the coming days who will determine if the facilities meet the necessary requirements. Donegal chairman Sean Kelly said: "It is out of our hands really, and it is now up to Croke Park. "But yes, there are serious concerns about the game being played in Ballybofey. The main problem is with the dressing-room and medical facilities. It might have been okay for a day game, but the night game is the problem. It will be inspected in the next few days and the officials from Croke Park will make the final decision and really we won't know anymore on the matter until then. But I would have to admit it is not looking good." If the game is moved, it could come as a blessing in disguise for Donegal officials who are under pressure to stage at least one National League at O'Donnell Park in Letterkenny.
