Naomh Fionnbarra & St. Anne's New Land Purchase & Development Plans

The fine facilities at John Markey Park, Ballynagassan, Co. Louth

Naomh Fionnbarra G.F.C. and St. Anne's Camogie Club are proud and delighted to announce the purchase of 5.15 acres of land adjacent to their existing facilities at John Markey Park, Ballynagassan, Co. Louth.  Both clubs have been using these facilities since 1975 and the grounds were officially opened on 13th May 1984.  It is hoped to use this new land to further enhance the existing facilities with development of an additional fully flood-lighted training field, a 2 metre wide exercise track around the field, which will be open to the community and creation of extra much needed car parking spaces.

This a very large and exciting project for the club. Last year Naomh Fionnbarra were awarded a €130,000 Sports Capital Grant which it is hoped can be used for the development of the newly purchased field, however substantial funding will still be required to turn the clubs plans into reality. Both clubs have created a Club Development Fund who's fundraising proceeds go solely towards the proposed development facilities.  Other avenues of fundraising which the club have undergone so far include a very successful Strictly Come Dancing fundraiser last year, a "Club Barrs 2015-2017" membership scheme as well as receiving loans from members of the community.  Naomh Fionnbarra G.F.C. and St. Anne's Camogie Club are extremely grateful to everyone who has contributed towards the fundraising of this significant development project so far.  Both clubs hope to merge forces in early 2016 for another major fundraiser which will again go towards the Club Development Fund.

A lot of work has already been undertaken in relation to the project including the long and drawn out purchase of the lands from NAMA, the successful Sports Capital Grant application in 2014, lodgement of a planning application for the proposed development on the newly purchased lands and preparation of the draft detailed design for the proposed facilities on these lands.  Both clubs would like to thank all who have helped in any shape or form so far including all of our players and teams, our committee members, all of our club members and supporters, club sponsors, our neighbours and other voluntary groups from the parish of Togher who have pledged support to the proposed development.

Naomh Fionnbarra G.F.C  was established in 1957 with the amalgamation of members of the St. Colmcille's and Walshestown Rovers clubs. The club covers all of Togher Parish from Grangebellew and Port in the south to Annagassan bridge to the North. It also stretches from the coast as far west as Drumcar.  The club caters for football teams for both men and ladies boys and girls from U-6 age group to adult level.  The adult men's team currently ply their trade in the Junior Football Championship and Division 2 of the All County League.  The adult ladies team operate currently in Division 2 of the Louth Ladies League and the Intermediate Football Championship.  Recent success for the men include the Intermediate Championship in 2001 and the Junior Championship in 2010 along with a number of League titles, most recently Division 3 in 2014.  Whatever the men can do the ladies can do and they have recently won the Junior Championship in 2011 and the Division 3 League in 2012.

St. Anne's Camogie Club was founded in 1964 following a meeting held in Fr. Kennedy's house in Dillonstown.  Since then there has been a lot of changes but a strong tradition of Camogie in Togher has remained throughout the years.   The club caters for camogie teams from U-12 to adult level.  The adult ladies team operate currently in the Louth Camogie League and the Senior Camogie Championship.  Recent success for the club includes the capture of the Louth Senior Camogie Championship in 2013 and the return home of the Fr. Soraghan Cup after 23 years."
