Hall Of Fame 2011
This Hall of fame recipient can truly be described as original.
St Mary's were only formed about 13 years when he won his first championship in 1943 as a 16 year old on a minor team that won out against a star-studded Marist college team from Dundalk.
Two years later in 1945 he collected his second championship medal in the 2nd division Championship and also won his first league medal in the Ranafast Cup.
From this on, the real story of his football career emerged.
How many players can boast of having played in and won Five Louth County Senior Championship Finals? The gold medals were won in 1946, 1948, 1951, 1955 and 1956.
On top of that he also played in seven winning O'Donnell Cup final teams - starting in 1947. Then subsequent successes in 1949 and an amazing 5 year run in 1952, 1953, 1954, 1955 and 1956.
Old Gaels Cup successes came his way in 1955 and 1956. In those two years all Senior County Board competitions were won by St Mary's.
What an unbelievable sequence of playing in and winning 12 Championship and O'Donnell Cups Finals for one man from 1946 to 1956.
His career also included representing Louth at senior level from 1951 to 1957 and winning a Leinster Senior Football Championship medal in 1953.
In that particular year of 1953, there were three sets of brothers on the Louth panel- all from mid Louth- Tom and Jim Conlon from Stabannon, Jimmy and Michael Mc Donnell from Darver and our man and his brother Kevin.
Also in 1953 he took part in an All Ireland seven-a-side competition in Athlone. On about three succeeding weekends St Mary's drove over to Athlone and gave a tremendous display in winning all matches and taking home the trophy.
He played hurling with the local Naomh Colmcille Hurling Club and won several Junior Championships with them.
The winner of this year Hall Of Fame is ..... Paddy Beahan!
