Minor A County Football Final
Kildimo-Pallaskenry 0-9 Feale Rangers 1-12
Our Minor footballers lined out against Feale Rangers on St. Senan's pitch in Foynes on Saturday September 29 th in the Minor A County Final. Feale Rangers got off to a bright start with three points from play. Most of the first-half action was in our half of the field as we were losing the majority of our own kick-outs - when we did get the ball into the Rangers' half, our forwards were quite effective with Paudie Walsh, a late replacement for Jack O'Keefe, and Martin Nunan making some good runs at the Rangers' defence. Martin Nunan managed to pull a point back after beating a number of defenders. Feale Rangers added another point to their tally and shortly after, Paudie Walsh
scored our second point from a 45 which had been dropped into the square. Martin Nunan scored a fisted point shortly after, putting the score at a respectable 0-3 to 0-4, considering our lack of possession at this point. For the remainder of the first half, it was all Feale Rangers - fighting a rear-guard action, we conceded another goal and five points before half-time leaving us with a massive hill to climb in the second half. Half-time score: 0-3 to 1-9.
Feale Rangers started the second half with a point from play - this could have been a goal but for a brilliant reflex save from goalkeeper David Kelly, who knocked the ball over the bar. For the rest of the second half, we were in the ascendency with Tony McCarthy, Eoin Cuddihy and Niall Maher prominent - we scored 5 points without reply to put us in a good position with ten minutes remaining. Rangers had a brief spell on the offensive when they scored two points despite losing a corner back due to a red card. Tony McCarthy slotted over a free with about 5 minutes to go with another free dropped in towards the square going wide a few minutes later. In the end, we probably didn't do ourselves justice over the 60 minutes, losing to a good footballing side - the damage was done in the first half.
This group of footballers have done Kildimo and Pallaskenry proud this season, winning the City title and reaching a County A final - worthy achievements indeed.
Thanks must also be extended to the management team of Tom O'Connell, Seán Cuddihy, Noel McCarthy, Jim Maher, Pat Galvin and Alan Fitzgerald, all of whom have put in an enormous amount of work this season.
