St. Patrick's Club Notes

The Clubs Annual General Meeting took place on Monday last at 8.15pm at St. Patrick,Äôs Clubhouse a large turnout was in attendance. Mass for the Deceased Members also took place and many thanks to our parish priest Fr. Irwin for celebrating Mass before the A.G.M. The following officers and committee members for 2009 elected on the night were President: J.J.Kenneally, Vice Presidents: Brendan Tobin, Tim O Connor Snr and Vivian Cobbe. Chairman: Paddy Quilligan. Vice Chairman: (to be confirmed) Secretary: Eamonn Phelan. Asst. Secretary: Paul Doherty Treasurer: Jack Sheehan. Asst. Treasurer Ger Ryan. P.R.O. Eamonn Phelan. Asst P.R.O. Kevin Maher. Registrar: Diarmuid Murphy. Committee members: Larry Cross, Laurence Cross, Patrick Doyle, Philip Doyle, Thomas Downes, Michael McNamara, Noel Phelan, Kieran Dore, John Daly, Jimmy Quilligan, Joe Kelly, Pat O Doherty, Joe Markham, Peter Sheehan, John Mullane, Niall Phelan, Gearoid Phelan and Owen O Shaughnessy. A detail report of our A.G.M. will follow in next week,Äôs notes. All at the club was saddened to hear of the death of former St. Patrick,Äôs club player Anthony Shanny who past away recently in England. Anthony played a major part in the clubs only two county senior hurling championship victories in 1949 and 1950. Anthony played midfield in both county championship finals in the 1949 final St. Patrick,Äôs defeated East side Geraldines by 2-07 to 2-03 St. Patrick,Äôs team on that great day was Paddy Collopy, Sean O Connell, Tom Frawley, Brendan Tobin, Seamus Keating, Tommy O Brien, James Fitzgerald, Paddy Fitzgerald, Anthony Shanny, Mick O Brien, Nick O Dea, John Foley, Roger McSweeney, Christy McInerney and Mick O Halloran. Subs used was Jack Sheehan for Seamus Keating. In the 1950 county final St. Patrick,Äôs defeated City Gaels by 4-05 to 3-05. Anthony midfield partner in both finals was St. Patrick,Äôs captain Paddy Fitzgerald and played with his brother Paddy Shanny in that final, who played at corner back in the 1950 county final. Anthony also helped the County senior hurling team in the National league and tournament games and also played in our Clubs senior football team that that was defeated by Abbeyfeale in 1950 by 1-04 to 1-03 in the county senior football championship. As well as figuring with the Limerick county seniors, Anthony played for his county in minor hurling and football teams. Anthony was also part of our senior hurling County finalist team back in 1953 when Treaty Sarsfields defeated us by 6-10 to 1-02 Saints defeated Bruree by 6-01 to 2-04 and Ahane 3-05 to 1-05 on the way to the final. Other members of the team were Jack Sheehan, Sean O Connell, Brendan Tobin, Toddy O Brien, Paddy Fitzgerald, Jim Fitzgerald, Micky Moloney, Liam O Halloran, Joe Aherne, Mick Tuohy, Stevie Keogh, Mick Tobin, Pa McMahon, Joe Roughan, Tony O Sullivan, Mick Ryan and Gerry O Sullivan.
