An Ulster man could be the top scoring hurler in championship 2014.

After playing seven games so far this summer, Antrim's Paul Shiels has 1-64 to his name thanks to a run that has involved five games in Leinster, a qualifier loss to Offaly and an Ulster final win over Derry.

He is 20-points clear of Cork's Pat Horgan.

Antrim's PJ O'Connell (4-12) is the top scorer from play with Tipperary's Seamus Callanan (5-6) hot on his heels.

Callanan is the top goal scorer with five majors, with O'Connell, Conor McDonald (Wexford) and Derek McNicholas (Westmeath) on four each.

The highest individual scoring feat in the championship so far is Horgan's 2-11 against Clare and Callanan's 3-8 v Galway.

The highest average score belongs to Limerick's Shane Dowling with 13.5 points per game.
