Cats immortalised in stone

Cats immortalised in stone
The new Kilkenny statue.

A sculpture to honour the Kilkenny hurlers has been unveiled in Kilkenny city.

Brian Cody was on hand on Thursday to perform the unveiling of the statue which is located in Canal Square. The 'Pride of Kilkenny', which was crafted by the renowned Clare sculptor Barry Wrafter, is an impressive four-metre high, two-tonne artwork featuring three players rising for a ball.

While Wrafter has stressed the sculpture doesn't depict a particular player, the player fielding the sliothar bears a striking resemblance to Tommy Walsh.
