The Kildare county board executive has been given the green light by delegates to proceed with its plans to develop a new 23,000 capacity stadium on a 26-acre site on the outskirts of Newbridge. The ambitious project will be financed by the sale of St. Conleth's Park in the centre of Newbridge and the new ground at Old Connell on the Naas side of the town will become the headquarters for Kildare GAA. The new stadium will form part of the proposed Citygate development which will encompass retail, residential, industrial and office units as well as a hotel and leisure centre. It is envisaged that the entire project will be completed within four years, with the existing county grounds remaining in use in the meantime.
