Kerry SFC final: Cooper helps Crokes retain title

October 31, 2011

Dr. Crokes celebrate
Dr Crokes 2-8
Mid Kerry 0-9

Colm Cooper struck for 1-3 as Dr Crokes retained their Kerry senior football championship crown at the expense of Mid Kerry yesterday at a rain-soaked Fitzgerald Stadium in Killarney.

The holders put themselves in the driving-seat in this contest after just 20 seconds when the lethal Cooper poached a goal which came off the back of some good work from Johnny Buckley and Kieran O'Leary. From there they surged towards a 1-4 to 0-1 half-time lead, with Pa Kilkenny's point the only accurate response from a struggling Mid Kerry.

After the resumption, the divisional side came out firing though as Gavin O'Grady (2), Darran O'Sullivan and Sean O'Sullivan struck unanswered scores which brought them right back into contention, before Daithi Casey grabbed a fortuitous goal down the other end which saw all their good work undone.

Further scores from Cooper, O'Leary and Buckley would all but kill off the game coming approaching the final ten minutes.
