The Ashbourne qualifier between UCD and Athlone IT took place under lights in UCD Wednesday night in very windy conditions. Mairead Luttrell, UCD captain, won the toss and decided to play with the wind in the first half. Katie O'Dwyer opened the scoring with a point after 3 wides by UCD. From there on there was no looking back for UCD and it seemed that the AIT goalie spent the match pucking the ball out. Ruth Kaiser and Anna Farrell scored a point each from runs from mid field. Katie O Dwyer put away 2 goals and a point. Leann Fennelly registered 3 points on the scoreboard. Alison Maguire scored 3 points, all from frees. Eileen McElroy rallied a total of 2-3 and Eimear O'Connor scored 1-1. At the half time whistle it finished 5-16 to no score, with 9 wides from UCD.
The second half was just a matter of finishing the game. With agreement, UCD put on all their subs. AIT scored a point near the end of the second half after Mairead Luttrell conceded a free. The final score finished 9-22 to 1 point.
After a very one sided game UCD will now travel to Galway to compete in the Ashbourne Cup on the weekend of the 18th of February.
