All County League Division 3
St John Bosco 1-06 Glenn 0-11
Glenn got back on winning tracks with a hard earned victory over local rivals Bosco at the Newry Venue on Friday the 16th. After losing their opening two games against Bredagh and St John's, Glenn went into this game knowing a win was vital at this stage, but things didn't look good as the Newry side piled on the pressure almost from the start. Glenn went ahead after three minutes when David Bagnall played a one two with Colm Murtagh before shooting over. The Boscos Keith McCrink levelled things a minute later from a free kick, and a good five man move saw Paddy Magill put the Bosco ahead. Raymond Quinn levelled things in the eleventh minute, but midway through the first half a long ball from Keith McCrink broke to Kevin Falloon who was pulled down inside the penalty area. Neil Tummilty took the spot kick sending Glenn Keeper Mickey Doran the wrong way, two more converted frees from Paul McKeown and Keith McCink put the Newry side 1-4 to 0-02 ahead with half time approaching. With quite a bit of injury time played Glenn upped their game, victorious St Colman's captain Niall McParland set up Colm Murtagh for a good score, and a free from the same player saw Mattie Bagnall find Steven Fearon who slotted over to leave just three between them, just before the break a great run from Mattie Bagnall saw him cut down the end line before driving a low and hard shot but the Bosco keeper Barry McParland saved well. Half Time score Bosco 1-4 Glenn 0-04.
Glenn continued the pressure after the break and three points in the opening eight minutes of the half from Mattie Bagnall levelled the game for a third time. Moments later a nothing scuffle saw Boscos Declan Byrne and Glenn's Colm Murtagh sent off. This didn't stop the Glenn team who took the lead with a good score from Mattie Bagnall and a fine solo effort from Minor star Dennis Murtagh put the Glenn men two points in front. Glenn brought on Damien O'Hare and straight away he made an impact, an eight man move set up Jason Lennon for a great score. Glenn should have increased their lead but poor finishing allowed Bosco a way back. Christopher Dougan scored twice to leave just one point between the sides. Glenn dug deep and a Mattie Bagnall point in the last seconds of the game was enough to give Glenn their first win of the season and they thoroughly deserved it. This was a great Glenn performance and the win was nothing more than they have deserved the hard work is paying off and it's clear for all to see. Next up for Glenn is a home match on Friday 23rd to Carryduff.
