An Clochan Liath winning on a score-line of An Clochan Liath 1-9 Ardara 1-6. Joe Sweeney getting a first half goal after good work from the ever green Tony Boyle. Benny McGarvey also kicking some fine scores and with young guns Gerard Walsh and Christopher McDevitt along with the elder rookie Dessie Greene covering every inch of MacCumhaill park and a commanding display from midfield duo Paul McGarvey and Donal Rodgers the Rosses men captured silverware for the second successive year. Well done to the entire team including the management of Marty Boyle, Myles Sweeney and John Ward. The senior team were also in action at the weekend away to Ardara and were beaten on a score-line of An Clochan Liath 0-12 Ardara 1-10. Playing with the wind in the second half Dungloe chipped away at Ardara's lead, however time ran out and Ardara collected all two points in this closey contested match. Best for Dungloe were Mark McPaul, Mark Sweeney, Adrian Sweeney and Corey Gallagher Tir Chonaill Gaels Club Notes Seniors: Its back to Ruislip in two weeks time as we played out a drawn match in the championship final against Neasden last Sunday. Trailing at half time 1-5 to 0-5 the Gaels showed great character in the second half to peg back Neasden against the wind and reduce them to just two points. It wasn't our best day at the office but we live to fight another day with the replay to be played on Sunday 18th October. Best on the day were Hugh Cunningham and Shaun Campbell in defence with Gary Kane and Gary Mc Closkey having the bigger share at midfield. Up front the Veteran Niall Quinn rolled back the years with a vintage performance scoring two points and using his excess weight to good effect. Final score TCG 0-10 Neasden 1-7 Farewell: Best wishes to club physio Kalambo Simpungwe who is leaving the club after a three year stint to take up a full time post. Next draw 08/10/09, Jackpot £2,950 Play online at wwwtirchonaillgaels.com Robert Emmets Notes Mixed fortunes for our Div. 3 in Bundoran at the weekend. Our reserve team went down to another heavy defeat, but must be complimented on their determination, commitment and spirit. Week in week out the suffer defeat but still show great character and loyalty by fulfilling all there fixtures and maintaining good discipline. The have just one game left now and that is a home game against Carndonagh. Our Sen. team gave themselves a lifeline to survival in Div. 3 with a hard earned but well deserved win over Bundoran 1-13 to 2-8. Playing with the elements in the first we had we held the balance of possession but two goals for Bundoran in the space of a minuet meant that we went in at half time level 1-7 to 2-4. Coming out for the second half with the wind in our face, prospects did not look good, but fair play to all, the really buckled to the task and kept Bundoran under pressure for most of this half. Our defence closed down the Bundoran forwards and with Brian Harvey and Enda O Doherty winning the midfield battle a steady flow of good ball was being supplied to the forwards where Emmet White and Niall Mc Connell posed a constant threat to the Bundoran defence. The introduction of Dominick Mc Glinchey to the attack in the final ten mins. added strength and width and Emmets finished strongly to deservedly collect two vital points. Although the strong wind made playing conditions difficult both teams faired up a good sporting and entertaining game and Ref, Liam Brown, contributed to this by letting the play flow without being over fussy. Our last game is a home game v Carndonagh. We had our Sponsored cycle on Sun. morning and this proved to be a very enjoyable and successful event with up to thirty cyclists taking part. Some took the short route while others went the full distance but all entered into the spirit of event and all are to be thanked and complimented on their efforts. For the record first cyclist home in the " Race" was Rodney Stewart, followed by Michael Mc Glinchey and Brendan Gallagher. But it was not about racing it was just the fun of participating and the feel good factor of completing that was important. Sincere thanks to all who took part, to all who sponsored them, to the people who accompanied the cyclist with cars, to Super Value B. Bofey for refreshments served up by Alison and her helpers, to Danny Mc Cauley for minerals, to Fr. Polke for the use of the Hall and S.V.P. for their help. All said it was a very good community fun event and raised good financial support for the Club and hopefully we can do something like this again and get even more involved. Again special thanks to our cyclists; you can all feel justly proud of your achievement. Training is continuing for the Strictly Come Dancing and is going well and already the excitement is building. LADIES St Naul's ladies had an early start on Sunday morning last when they headed around the Gweebarra bends to take on Dungloe for a ten o'clock throw-in in Dungloe. For a long spell it looked as if we hadn't woken properly as Dungloe started the sharper and led for the first 20 minutes until we struck with a four goal blitz in the final ten minutes of the first half with Denise Quigley, Eilish Ward and Annaleigh Breslin twice, finding the back of the net giving St Nauls a 4-3 to 2-4 half time lead. The third quarter was again evenly balanced and it took some solid Naul's defending and excellent goalkeeping from Yvette Armstrong to resist a major Dungloe onslaught. We gradually gained control, especially in midfield and finished much the stronger team and added two more goals from the boot of Eilish Ward to make our way home with a well deserved 6-6 to 2-7 victory. This win means we finished second in the league bringing us into the all county league semi final where we will come up against Malin on a date yet to be arranged as Malin are competing in the Ulster club championship next Saturday. The team and scorers against Dungloe; Yvette Armstrong; Geraldine Sheerin, Allison McGready, Ciara Boyle; Keri McGroarty, Connie McGroarty, Laura Kenny; Maria Breslin, Eilish Ward (3-3); Caoimhe Maguire, Denise Quigley (1-0), Donna Kelly(0-1); Bronagh McBrearty, Annaleigh Breslin (2-2), Jody McInaw. Sub was Leanne McInaw who started but got injured in the first minutes and had to very reluctantly make way. Na Dunaibh club notes 1.
