Henry Downey to be honoured at Queen's University

October 15, 2012

Queen's University and Derry great Henry Downey is raised high by members of the current Hurling Club in front of the historic Lanyon Building
Celebrated past Derry and Queen's Hurler Henry Downey was recently honoured with selection at right half forward on the Fitzgibbon Cup Team of the Century. This is a fantastic recognition for Henry and a source of great pride for the Hurling Club at Queen's University.

To mark this achievement, the Queen's Hurling Club will host a dinner at the University in Henry's honour. We hope that the evening will be a fitting tribute to the man, as well as recognition of the esteem with which Henry Downey is held within this club and through hurling circles in Ulster and Ireland.

The event will take place on the evening of Saturday, November 17th 2012 at 7pm in the Great Hall at Queen's and tickets are priced at £30.

The event is open to all Gaels and anyone who wished to pay tribute to the great Henry Downey, his career and the fantastic recognition of selection on the Fitzgibbon Cup team of the Century. We would particularly encourage past players, administrators, coaches and friends from every era in our club's rich history to attend but this is an open event to all interested parties. Many present and past leading lights of Ulster and National hurling will be in attendance.

To purchase tickets directly, you may call the PEC on 028 9068 1126 or send a cheque addressed to Aidan O'Rourke at the Queen's PEC.
