Holders show opening hand

Holders Derry have named their team and subs for their first assignment in defence of the national football league title. The Oak Leafers travel to Ballina to take on Mayo on Sunday afternoon and manager Damien Cassidy has been forced to make do without a number of regulars for his first league match at the helm. Enda Muldoon, Mark Lynch, Kevin McCloy, Colin Devlin and vice-captain Niall McCusker are all unavailable, but attacking phenomenon Paddy Bradley has made the bench despite only recently returning from an extended holiday in Australia. Veteran Sean Marty Lockhart wears the No.3 jersey and Bellaghy's Fergal Doherty captains the side from midfield, where he is partnered by Slaughtneil's Patsy Bradley. There are competition debuts for Chrissy McKaigue at wing back, James Kielt and Seamus Bradley at corner forward, corner back Brian Og McAlary and left half forward Sean Leo McGoldrick.
