Former GAA President Christy Cooney guided Youghal to a place in this year's All-Ireland Club IHC semi-final with a five point victory over St Gabriel's at Ruislip.

The Cork and Munster champions held the upperhand throughout and the home side's cause wasn't helped by the dismissal of Neil Rogers in the 28th minute following a late challenge on Nigel Roche.

Brendan Ring and captain Bill Cooper were in good scoring form for the winners with six and three points respectively.

"Today was a massive challenge for us because of having to travel over and stay in London," Cooney said to the Irish Independent.

"We prepared extremely well for this. We knew we were coming over to face a very good team and thankfully we performed."
