A.C.F.L Division 1 - New Rules?

(Oldest Posts First)

I know its early to talk about the league, but I just want to clarify what are the top finishing positions in relation to staying in Senior championship for 2013? If an Intermediate team who is in Div 2 wins their championship do they get to play Senior champ in 2013 or is it just based on League position?

As far as I'm aware the intermediate and Junior championships will be played earlier in the year possibly may & june, thus allowing junior and intermediate teams to form amalgamations to compete in the senior championship which will start in july as normal.

There'll be a lot of meaningless game in Div 2 in 2013.There could also be a situation where a lot of lads will have nothing to train for after the intermediate championship is over.
Would it be better to have 4 leagues of 10 teams? Div 1 for senior teams,Div 2&3 for intermediate, and div 4 for junior. Each team could play each other home and away.
The top two teams in both Div 2&3 play in an open draw and the 2 winners move up to Div 1, and likewise the bottom 2 in both Div 2&3 play an open draw with the losers droping down to Div 4.

I think the intention is to split division 2 into two seperate divisions a and b, with 10 teams in each.

What would happen if Cavan Gaels didnt win the Senior Championship and got relegated from Div 1. But their Div 2 team won Div 2 AND got promoted?

Would there be restrictions on what DIV players could play in ??

Is this official? Am I right in saying that the only way a team can be promoted is by winning either the junior or intermediate championships or by finishing top of either the div 2/3 league?

This seems to be a very poor idea for a system. There are so many flaws that are clear to be seen.

The biggest one of all is the senior championship set up.

10 teams and not 12? What way is this going to be played?

Two groups of 3 and one group of 4? That wouldn't work.

Two groups of 5 with 2 teams progressing through from each seems like the only viable option and this is just a smaller version of the league.

This is only one of many flaws.

What happens for 2014? The system would have to be completely changed again otherwise it would just end up being the 9 of the same 10 teams playing senior championship football every year.

It is clear that not much consideration was put into this idea and if this is what county officials spend their time doing, then it worries me greatly.

I think some of you need to read the Quinn report as it may clear up a few matters. The Senior Championship has 16 teams in 2013 which will be made up of 10 Senior teams and 6 amalgamations made up by the County board using the other 32 clubs in the county.

And it is worth remembering that this is only the tip of the iceberg! The clubs of the county voted to introduce this report in November and to be honest, it would seem the majority didn't have a proper understanding of what was being proposed. Now it seems people have begun to take notice of it and most are not in favor. Well, it's too late. 1 amendment was allowed a few weeks ago to allow a slim promotion chance in Div 2 and Div 3 for 2012 so it wouldn't be a year of challenge games. Apart from that, we've made our bed....
