Another rule of thumb is the word "there", if you say thy-air you are in the West where as if you say "thur" you are in the East The exception of course is the Clogher Valley who say "there" like West Tyrone people. These people seem to classify themselves as South Tyrone these days but the clubs can be divided as well Regarding Carrickmore well they pass all the tests of West Tyrone so yous are Westies no question Another tough one is Aghaloo, the Brantry area is a definite east but in Augnacloy itself you would have much the same argument as Ballygawley for being in the West. However getting off the fence I would say East! I would classify the clubs as follows: East: Aghaloo O'Neills Ardboe O'Donovan Rossa GAC Brackaville Owen Roes GFC Brocagh Emmetts Clonoe O'Rahilly's Coalisland Na Fianna Cookstown Fr. Rock's Derrylaughan Kevin Barrys Derrytresk Fir An Chnoic Donaghmore St. Patrick's Dungannon Thomas Clarkes Edendork St. Malachy's Eglish St. Patrick's Galbally Pearses Kildress Wolfe Tones Killeeshil St. Mary's Killyman St. Mary's Moortown St. Malachy's Moy Tír Na nÓg Pomeroy Plunketts Rock St. Patrick's Stewartstown Harps WEST: Aghyaran St. Davog's Augher St. Macartan's Beragh Red Knights Carrickmore St. Colmcille's Castlederg St. Eugene's Clann na nGael Clogher Éire Óg Dregish Pearse Og Dromore St. Dympna's Drumquin Wolfe Tones Drumragh Sarsfields Errigal Ciarán GAC Eskra Emmetts Fintona Pearses Glenelly St. Joseph's Gortin St. Patrick's Killyclogher St. Mary's Loughmacrory St. Teresa's Newtownstewart St. Eugene's Omagh St. Enda's Owen Roes O'Neills St Patrick's, Greencastle Strabane Sigersons Tattyreagh St. Patrick's Trillick St. Macartan's Urney St. Columba's By the way THE WEST IS THE BEST! omaghjoe (Tyrone) - Posts: 1191 - 12/04/2009 01:49:53 255123 Link 0 |
It all has to do with when the watershed folks it all depends where the rain that falls on your house eventuly ends up. IF you are a westie your water flows down to the strule, into the Foyle and enters the sea at Derry city. On the other hand if your water flows into Lough Neagh and enters the sea at Coleraine via the Bann then you are an Eastie. This works well in most of Tyrone because the parishes are divided along the water shed: Greencastle/Kildress Carrickmore/Pomeroy etc and the prouncation of the word "there" also follows the watershed, however the exception is in the Clogher Valley: Augher, Clogher, Ballygawley and possibly Agahloo, all their water ends up in the Lough but they pronounce "there" like West Tyrone people. They also generally classify themselves as south Tyrone so how do you divide them? Well Augher and Clogher are fairly well west so you can put them in West Tyrone Ballygawley is more difficult but since half of the parish's water ends up in the Foyle, Dunmoyle pitch's water ends up in the Foyle, and since they then they prounce the word "there" like Westies they too will have to be classified as Westies Agahloo will have to be East becasue although Augncloy itself is on the border the Brantry area is undoubtly East So there you have it folks! omaghjoe (Tyrone) - Posts: 1191 - 12/04/2009 14:16:28 255236 Link 0 |
Judging by the state of the Aghaloo pitch the last time I drove past it all their water ends up staying on their field RichardCranium (Tyrone) - Posts: 262 - 12/04/2009 16:58:58 255288 Link 0 |
I think to sort out the tears between the people who care about the dividence, There should be a senior match. 2 seperate teams. A team from the east and a team from the west!Like the 15 best players from each side.would be a good event for charity? theeHobler (Armagh) - Posts: 46 - 12/04/2009 21:59:34 255480 Link 0 |
