Drumhowan are only representatives left
11 November 2008

Of Monaghan's three representatives in the Ulster club football championships Drumhowan are the only club still standing following their opening round victory over Carndonagh in Clones two weeks back.

This Sunday they face another assignment when they take on the McDermotts club from Belfast in the semi final and a game that will again pose a searching test and one where they will have to produce a better display than they did against Currin on Sunday last if they are to realise their ambition of going all the way at provincial level this year. McDermotts though will be difficult opponents. A Belfast based team they had been plying their trade in the intermediate grade in Antrim for quite some time but following a series of defections their form dropped off last season and they were relegated to junior ranks. That said though they will still have a core of experienced players and Drumhowan will have to be on top of their game if they are to progress.

The one positive thing for Drumhowan from last Sunday's junior semi-final was that they picked up no injuries although Dermot McDermott did require on-field treatment for an ongoing injury that has been niggling at him for some time. He will receive further treatment this week and should be fit to play. Sunday's game will be one where experience will be vital and Drumhowan have a number of very experienced players in the likes of James McElroy and Stephen McGinnity along with Dermot McDermott and Enda McElroy and if they get their game together early on and register a few early scores they certainly have the ability to progress.

So, whos telling tales!!!!!

To Bumpernut

Someone indeed must have ben talking out of school.

What is interesting though is that McDermotts are in the same position as Drumhowan, they are their county's only representatives left in the Ulster Club Football Championship. No write up on the Hoganstand Antrim page and not a whimper of it on the Antrim G.A.A. site.

We thank those who have posted messages of support on this messagebaord though and we will most certainly give it a lash.

Up the Macs.

Stylist,

I suppose we shouldnt really be surprised, if nothing else it should give us an extra incentive to progress further and the begrudgers can stick it where the sun dont shine in casement and elsewhere.
However, it is good to see other clubs wishing us all the best after all and i know its a cliche but we're all antrim gaels. So, hopefully rossa, gort and loughgiel do the business as well and make it a good weekend for Antrim.

Mc Dermotts were just a joke yesterday and so typical of a townie team, cracked when it was put up against them. There indiscipline just made me laugh. They looked so unfit compared to Drumhowan, so many players over weight. Just terible. Believe it or not im trying to be as complimentry as I can!

the last comment from mickey mouse was completely out of order. You know absolutely nothing of how hard mc'dees have trained all year with the target to win the Antrim JFC.They did just that so anythng after that was a bonus.Yes,Drumhowan were a fitter side, but you can be the fittest player in Ireland and not be able to match them for pace or technical ability, which is what also happened.Hats off to Drumhowan,it will take a very good side to defeat them.
