London County senior camogie final
July 16, 2007
After two consecutive unsuccesful final appearance, Fr. Murphys came good on Saturday evening to claim the county championship, against the holders Bros Pearse on a scoreline of 2-09 to 1-10.
Playing with a stiff breeze the Pearse opened the scoring with a point, this was cancelled out by a similar score from Murphy's Evelyn Quigley. then Emma Taylor, flicked a ball out to Brenda Kerr, who doubled it to the back of the Pearse net, the rest of the first half was very competitive , with both sides exchaging scores, but the Pearse crept ahead to lead at the break 0-07 to Murphy's 1-03. The challengers threw everything at the Pearses in the second half.
Kim Hickey and Evelyn Quigley were storming and the Murphy's lead fluctuated between one and two points for most of the half, with three minutes remaining Pearse launched an attack and Edel Murphy blasted a goal for them to leave them leading 1-10 to 1-09, it looked as if they had retained their title, but the Fr. Murphys got a free in centre field, hit goalwards, Shauna Keogh and Roisin Houlihan combined to goal with time up, to send the girls in purple and gold wild with delight
This was a fantastic game, well refereed by Eamon Browne from Knockavilla Co Tipperary. Shauna Keogh starred earlier in the day for the London footballers and Kim Hickey returned from Australia especially for the game
Seven of the Fr.Murphy's camogie panel will be going for a double on saturday in the senior football final
