Knot again: Casement facing more legal action

The stalled Casement Park redevelopment project is posing more headaches for the GAA after it emerged that a local resident is taking legal action over the spread of Japanese knotweed into their property.

Knotweed can damage buildings and block drains. An Ulster GAA spokesman told the Irish News: "The GAA is aware of a homeowner who has served a writ in respect of their individual property. However, it would be entirely inappropriate to comment further on live legal matters."

This latest setback comes after planning permission for a £77 million redevelopment of Antrim GAA headquarters was overturned in 2014 after an objection by a residents' group was upheld in the High Court.

The GAA is expected to lodge a fresh planning application soon.
