Agree with Ritz. Andy Mc Cabe was a bit of a legend alright. Maybe he should have been there. Also thinking back I saw Gabriel Kelly at the end of his days and he was the best corner back in Ulster during the 60's. The late Donal Meade another fine player. Olly Leddy I dont think got an all-star. Great fielder and was in the running. Think it was Olly Brady got the all-star. John Joe Reilly from Crosserlough was a great schemer. Bernard Morris, the list goes on and on.

If yo go as far back as far as the 60's the names that would come to my attention would include; Gabriel Kelly, Pat Tinnely, Andy McCabe, Enda McGowan, Jim Reilly, Tom Maguire RIP, Ray Carolan, Ollie Brady (all star), Ollie Leddy, Steve Duggan, John Joe Reilly, Gene Cusack, D.McCabe, Charlie Gallagher RIP, Paddy McNamee,
And to go back further there were many from the All-Ireland winning teams such as Mick Higgins, the gunner Brady and John Joe Reilly being examples of players who would get on any team

just on a note about Cavan All stars. Between 1963 and 1967 these awards were know as Cu chulainn awards. gabriel kelly won 3 of these awards in 1963, 1964 and 1967. ray carolan won 2 awards in 1966 and 1967 and Charlie gallagher won 1 in 1964. 4 cavan players have been selected to play international rules against Australia. jim reilly (3 appearances) 1987, stephen King (1) 1987, Dermot McCabe (2) 1998,2001 and Larry Reilly (2) 2000.

also for people who are not aware of the strength of cavan football between 1952 and 1997, we won the Ulster Championship in 1954,1955,1962,1964,1967 and 1969.

I can see where all these teams are coming from but I think we should all remember that physically the players from the past mid 1990's back were a lot tougher and stronger than todays cavan team. I do not like to single out any player but take seanie johnson he can go out and fly around and if he's touched at all it is a free and the CCCC are watching for any off the ball stuff. Now take charlie gallagher, steve duggan, enda mcgowan, ray carolan and jim reilly. These men went out to play football and it was man to man combat, extreme physicality and often violence. Modern players do not face this so it is unfair to compare them to players from the past. Had Charlie gallagher been so well protected then he would have been unstoppable.

Cavan for Sam that is no way near our best 15. No Charlie Gallagher. Possibly the best forward we have produced since we last won an all-ireland.

would John Joe Reilly of Cornafean not be on any team....on the team of the last Millenium and captained Cavan to All-Ireland glory twice.

the thing is most of us never say John joe O' Reilly playing or peter donoghue or mick higgins or Simon duignan or Tom Reilly Of Victor Sherlock or Phil the Gunner.
I think its Ok for people to name the best 15 that they have seen playing. I think it is fair to assume that as all these illustrious names from the past won all-ireland medals and were renowned as the greatest of their time not just by Cavan people but also by the national press, that they surely would grace any best Cavan 15 .

so leave all those aside and lets concentrate on what we have seen. some people on here may have seen enda McGowan,Charlie gallagher, pat Tinnelly,Andy Mccabe,Steve Duggan,Gabriel kelly,Gene Cusack, Hughie newman etc. and that was another very talented crop of players. other people may have started going to matches in the 1980sor 90s and so would have witnessed the likes of ollie brady, jim reilly, Aiden elliot, pat faulkner, joe Dillon, Stephen King, larry and peter,Jason,
Fintal cahil, damien O' reilly (and the other Damien from Killinkere in Goals.

here is my fifteen which i pick for consistency and all round whole-hearted play.
paul O' Dowd,
pat tinnelly,
pat faulkner,
Enda Mcgowan,
Andy mccabe,
Joe Dillon,
Jim Reilly,
Stephen King,
Ollie leddy,
peter Reilly,
Ollie Brady,
Donal Donoghue,
Larry Reilly,
Steve Duggan,
damian O' Reilly(mullahoran)

I am very surprised that nobody mentioned Peter Pritchard who won medals with St. Pat's College, Bailieboro, Cavan and Ulster. He was a great player in the 60's and would walk onto any Cavan team as a corner back or half-back !! Pat Tinnelly from Kingscourt was another great back. No mention of Gene Cusack in the forwards either !!
