Rory Gallagher is now officially a Cavan player

January 11, 2007
Former Fermanagh and Ulster star forward, Rory Gallagher could well be in contention for a starting place for his adopted county, Cavan in the second round of the Dr. McKenna Cup in Kingspan/Breffni Park, Cavan - commencing at 6.30pm. Gallagher's transfer to the Breffni county was rubber-stamped yesterday (Tuesday) by Croke Park, and according to the Cavan boss, Donal Keogan this is good news for Cavan football and the player himself. The talented Gallagher was a prolific scorer for his native county and indeed, he currently holds the record for the highest individual tally in an Ulster SFC game when he had a personal tally of 3-9 when his native county defeated their near-neighbours, Monaghan in 2002. In recent seasons the 28 year-old Gallagher has been playing his club football with top Dublin side, St. Brigid's and helped them to win Dublin and Leinster SF club championships in recent years. It is now expected that he will join up with a local Cavan club in the coming weeks, and Crosserlough is mentioned as the likely club to have his services. Gallagher is presently working in Co. Cavan with a new waste management company based in Shercock. It is expected that Gallagher, who has been training with the Cavan squad since before Christmas will make his debut for the Breffni county on Saturday evening next in their McKenna Cup clash second round clash with Queen's University. Its an ideal game for his county comeback, and no doubt, his expected appearance will add to the numbers attending this game in Kingspan-Breffni Park, Cavan under lights this Saturday evening at 6.30 p.m.
