Cavan away to Roscommon in Tommy Murphy Cup
July 11, 2006
The draw for the 2006 Tommy Murphy Cup has been made. It is (first named teams have home advantage).
Cavan opening round game in the competition is on the week-end of Saturday, 22nd of July when they travel to Hyde Park, Roscommon and a meeting with John Maughan's Roscommon side.
The winners of this game play either Antrim or Kilkenny for a place in the semi-final. On current form, this is a tough opener for the Breffni side, as Roscommon showed excellent form in the recent Connacht SFC when going under to Galway at the Roscommon venue in the semi-final after dominating the opening half of the game against Peter Forde's Galway side.
Since that game, Roscommon were out in the All-Ireland Qualifiers when they went under to a resurgent Meath in Pairc Tailteann, Navan after more than holding their own in the opening half. Their form this season is akin to Cavan's as in most games they 'play hot and cold', but in saying that home advantage will mean something to them.
Round 1 (weekend of July 22nd):
Carlow v Wicklow. Waterford v Tipperary.
Clare v Louth. Antrim v Kilkenny.
Roscommon v Cavan.
Quarter-Finals (Weekend of July 29th):
