Club Volunteers in action!!
A sincere thank you to all our club volunteers- current players, executive members, some club coaching staff and other members- who all are putting their painting skills at the disposal of the club in order to expedite the development of the inside of our new complex. This is a very welcome development. Hopefully members with other necessary skill sets will follow the example of the painters and will volunteer their services if called upon in the certain knowledge that in doing so they are making an invaluable contribution to the development of the complex and to their club. Thanks to Niall O Riordan, Cavan Gaels Development Officer, who is coordinating all the club voluntary effort. Our new shop and turnstiles are already in operation. Thanks to all those who have already supported our development through becoming Friends of Cavan Gaels. The money from this source along with our Sports' Capital Grant has enabled us to proceed with the building. We urge others who have not joined so far to consider signing up in the knowledge that, by so doing, they will be making a significant contribution, not only to the Terry Coyle Park development, but to the long term development of our young boys and girls.
Division 1A League
Our seniors had a narrow victory over visitors Lacken on Saturday last in the All-County league. The home side, who had to play for most of the second half with fourteen men, fought hard to keep in contention. With time almost up and Lacken leading by two points, Mickey Lyng made an indelible imprint on the game with a classic strike to the net leaving his side winners by the narrowest of margins. Well done to our new look team for their tenacity in adversity and to the team management.
Minor League
Well done to our minors who defeated Ballyhaise in the minor league on Tuesday last.
County Minors
Best of luck to Luke Fortune, Shane Fortune and Fintan Carolan who are preparing for the Ulster minor final in which Cavan take on Derry in Clones on Sunday next 19 July. We wish the whole panel and management well as they strive to bring the Fr Liam Murray Cup back to Bréifne for the 7th time since the competition started in 1930. Cavan's previous provincial minor victories were in 1937, 1938, 1952, 1959, 1974 and 2011. Many illustrious players from Cavan town, representing the Slashers, the Harps and the Gaels, featured on these winning teams. Cavan went on to win the All-Ireland minor title in 1937 and 1938.
Under-16
Well done to our under-16s who tasted success in their recent league game against Lavey. Well done to the management for their work with these players.
Under-13
Hard luck to our under-13s and their management who were defeated by Drumlane recently.

Féile Peile na nÓg
Congratulations to our under-14s who reached the semi-finals of the national Féile competition recently. They got off to an ideal start against Michael Davitts with a 5-5 to 1-1 victory. In round two they were defeated by Coralstown-Kinnegad in a low-scoring game by 0-4 to 0-1! They got back to winning ways in round three with a 3-3- to 0-1 win against Castletown. In the quarter-final they met Castleblayney Faughs and overcame them on a scoreline of 3-4 to 1-3. Their opponents in the semi-final were the Longford champions Killoe who have had an excellent recent under-age pedigree in their county. They proved too strong for our players and they ran out winners by 2-8 to 1-2. It was a great adventure for these players. Well done also to the management and to all those who travelled to the south east to support the team. The memories should last a long time. Thanks to all those who supported the race night and to those who fundraised in any other way for this prestigious event.
