Presentation to the 1958 Cavan Gaels SFL winning team

Aiden Elliott, Chairman of the Cavan Gaels GFC made the presentations to the members of the first Cavan Gaels panel to win a senior league in 1958. He congratulated all of them and stated that they had blazed a trail for all teams to follow. They had set the tone of victory in the club from its earliest stage. Jimmy Sheridan the captain of the 1958 league winning side underscored the importance of the first league title which consolidated the new club. Gabriel Kelly, Cavan Gaels player and manager of the successful Gaels' teams of the 'seventies did the honours for the 1965 panel - the first Cavan Gaels team to achieve a senior championship title. Tributes were paid to the trainer of the 1965 team captain Jim McDonnell for his remarkable leadership and ability. Brother Cyril also played a significant role at managerial level in 1965. In recognition of his contribution a presentation was made to Brother Cyril. Brother Cyril in turn presented a shield to the club to be competed for by U-10s. Cavan Gaels clubman and All-Ireland referee Brian Crowe was the recipient of a presentation to honour his appointment as referee of last year's All-Ireland SFC final between Kerry and Mayo. The coveted players' 'player of the year' award was won by current Cavan Gaels captain, Eamon Reilly who received the Sean Galligan Shield and 'Elegant Gems' sponsored trophy.
