Ballyhaise Club Notes
April 18, 2011

Ballyhaise and Cavan U21 star Kevin Tierney
County U-21's
A large contingent of club members travelled to Brewster Park for the Ulster U-21 Final on Wednesday last and to Parnell Park for the All-Ireland semi-final on Saturday evening and were delighted with the performance of the Cavan team in both games. Congratulations to the team and management on their achievement of getting to the final and well done to Ballyhaise players Kevin Tierney and Aiden Moran who are members of the panel.
Minors
Ballyhaise Minors played Cavan Gaels in an entertaining clash at Terry Coyle Park on Sunday evening last. The Gaels, who are top of the table, started the better and raced into a three point lead but were denied a goal by a splendid save from goalie Eoghan McConnell. Ballyhaise replied with two fine goals - one each from Pauric Moore and Jamie Conaty. The half time score left Ballyhaise two points in arrears - 2-02 to 1-07. The Gaels raced into a six point lead but Ballyhaise displayed great heart and work rate to reduce this lead and earn a deserved share of the spoils with a goal from Diarmuid Conaty and a late penalty from Shane McKiernan to leave a final score of Cavan Gaels 2-12 Ballyhaise 4-06.
This was a great all round team performance from Ballyhaise, who despite playing with a number of their Under 16 team, contested well against a strong Gaels team. Eoin McGovern gave a man of the match performance and was ably assisted by Fiachra mcGoldrick, Francis Moore, Jamie Conaty and Paraic Moore. Our last League game will be away to Gowna.
Division 3A
The Division 3A team played Redhills in the league on Sunday afternoon. Two goals scored by the visitors in the first half left the home team with a mountain to climb. However, Ballyhaise, did fight back in the second half and managed to narrow the gap to just three points at the end. The final score was 2-9 to 1-9. There were good performances from John Fay and Niall Conaty in defence, Paul Prior in midfield and Don Gorby and Kurt Bravender in the forwards.
Ladies Football
Ballyhaise Ladies GFC is hosting an U-13 tournament in memory of Phelim Costello, former club treasurer, on Saturday 23rd April from 1pm to 4pm in Ballyhaise football pitch. A number of clubs are taking part and refreshments will be available. Your support would be appreciated.
Live to Play
Ballyhaise hosted a very successful 'Live to Play' seminar in Castletara National School on Friday night at 9pm. The seminar was hosted by Garda Adrian O'Hanlon and it was attended by over fifty club members. 'Live to Play', is the Ulster GAA's Road Safety programme and it helps to raise awareness and educate members on how best to stay safe on the roads. It involved a very impressive audio/visual presentation that put across a very strong message about the dangers of speeding and careless driving.
U-14's
Castletara U-14's played their third league game on Thursday evening last. After a narrow defeat in Round 2 by Ramor Utd, another tough game was anticipated against a physically strong Ballinagh team. Castletara began the game strongly and led by seven points at halftime. The second half was more evenly contested with Castletara scoring two goals to maintain their lead at the end. Our next game is on Thursday next away to Castlerahan who are unbeaten in the league so far.
